How we have EvoLved to what we like todAy!~

This is a little story of our once pink couch.....Once upon a time Mike and Debbie loved retro. This was early on, and in our first home.  We are in our third...well fourth if you count our apartment, which that counts too!!~  It obviously was just a phase, however it lasted for several years.  We had a pink couch, some pink vases, pink bowls, we even had a pink and black canister set.We almost went as far as having a retro dinette set....I drew the line there.  Now looking back, I think Mike and Debbie ummmmm...let say where, decorating confused ,maybe we just didn't know what we liked?? I think we always had to be different, UNIQUE as I would say.  I think we always had pretty good taste though.  Don't get me wrong, I still like retro...but it is so not practical to me.  And a pink couch with two boys?? I think we will stick to the Old World.....I found a picture of a pink couch, and I actually still have a vase and bowl I dug out for you....

This picture hung above the pink couch.  We still have this poster it is going up the stairs and I still like it.  It has book of pink matches.

Pink bowl kinda cute! Original from the 50's

Had to have the matching vase
And there you have our pink history of decorating!~The End. I originally made this post for a Pink Saturday Meme...however I was too late, but decided I am still posting it because I dug out and cleaned this pink stuff and thought it still is worth sharing our evolving changes and personalities. Thanks as always for stopping by and leaving nice comments.....Please stop by to see other cute pink saturday posts...at

I still am a fan of retro There was a shop called "Blast from the Past" in Milwaukee that was all retro the real stuff! It closed up after a few yrs. I think it was just getting to hard to find retro items to fill the shop. Seems everyone caught on to the retro and prices on used went sky high . Wed go on the Harley so I couldnt take anything big back! Ya know I would have. My dream for this mid century home we are in now was to do all retro but due to serious ongoing injury the dream fell short.I do have the bedroom set and a few other items but not enough to complete. OH well. Thanks for sharing the pink sofa. My dream sofa

DebbieDoo, what a lovely blog you have!!! I also love your "pink" story, and the fact that your husband was also into "pink" -- only a very self-assured man would admit to loving pink. You have two very handsome young men there! I'm going to enjoy following you and corresponding. You can also always feel free to get in touch with me at my email bobbypinsboardwalk@yahoo.com. I'm happy to be your newest follower!

Retro is so Rat Pack cool, when it's all pulled together well; but I'm, ahem, older and the seating is comparatively low with zero lumbar support in most of it. No can do at my house.

Your blog header with your two boys is soooooo adorable!!!

I love retro too, Debbie, especially in orange and aqua but just like you, I am more drawn to old world (though I still use a lot of orange and aqua)and European decor now. Thanks for sharing your pinks with us I love that vase and bowl!..Christine

I don't think you're too late, maybe for the linky love, but it's still great to post those lovely pink things.. Aren't those called "vintage"?

I love retro. I have contained my "pinkness" to my kitchen now, though. It reads very retro and even has the pink & gray dinette -- what's wrong with that?? ;-) I love it . . . though I must admit to feeling a bit trapped by it now. It would not get along with the nice, new maple cabinets I would like as well as the earthtones of the rest of the house. I'm still coming to grips with how to update the kitchen and still retain some of the pink retro I love and have so much invested in.

Thanks for coming by my blog and for your kind comments.

I love retro furniture ...but a light pink sofa? That's almost as practical as me choosing a cream colored damask sofa for the living room a few years before we had kids. And, yes, one child did throw up on it! That was a DUMB choice on our part.
My style has always been traditional 18th century, but in recent years it's become more transitional & have thrown in a few modern pieces.
BTW, in the 80's our walls in the living/dining room were pink ... don't think I will ever do that again!
Thanks for taking us back to your retro period!

Ok peeps don't get me wrong, I told you Mike and I always had good taste! IT just was not practical for our young growing family at the time!~ Lemonyrenee nothing wrong with your dinette...if you love it cool...that is one thing in retro I knew I would grow tire of easily. If you want to keep your stuff throw in that Urban Modern twist to it, I bet you can find some on Houzz for inspirational ideas!!~ Thanks for stopping by...

HI Debbie!

fun! I like retro in little bits here and there. I don't think I could be so brave to have a pink sofa. But, like I said, I like to play with a little retro.

We did our music studio all retro but with a modern twist...totally different from hom and we loved it. My grandmother had a pink kitchen...pink countertops, appliances, toaster, mixers, etc., in the early 1960s. And pink bathroom fixtures also. I collect too much stuff to do that style at home, but I love it.

Also...I saw some beautiful pink rooms in a Country Living maybe last fall. It is definitely out there and I see it a lot with cottage style.

Love the retro stuff you have! Keep it forever! It will come in and out of style, but what's style anyway. To me style is what one likes for their own home, not necessarily what the current trend is! You should use these somewhere in your home! I love that sofa! That's just a beauty!

Hey Debbie, Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! I love your background...it's so colorful!

I'm not really fond of pink in decor, but it's probably becuz I lived with a pink speckled laminate counter for 26 years..UGLY! I'm sure that will change as I've seen so much pretty pink in decor blogs lately.

I loved your pink story! I like bits of everything, retro included. I am helping my youngest son (32) decorate his Manhattan apt. modern/retro. What fun!

I can honestly say that pink is not a color I've had in any of my houses(grew up with pink carpet, yikes!), unless you count coral?? That went by the wayside anyhow. I agree that pink can be used in many styles and ways, just not for me. As for retro, it's cool to look at, again not for me. Debbie of course you have always had good taste and that is the thing I love about your style, you don't necessarily exclude any style, you blend what you LOVE expertly and it shows!
