Bunco..led to a project?..and I have a problem out there!

Ok, ladies and gents...first maybe someone can explain this strange occurence of acorns almost killing me outside! I am getting attacked.....
seriously, they come flying off the trees, and when they hit, they hit hard.  Luckily, they have missed me, but perhaps you can tell me why the sudden overflow of acorns this year?

They drop so hard they lose their cute hats!

This is what I wake up to every morning these days...a MESS of acorns.  I finally have no more pine needles due to the storms taking down those trees back in May.
This is crazy!

Tonight is bunco, and I am hosting!
We of course plan on doing some pizza's...

And hopefully, the rain will let up, so that we can.
Notice the pizza oven has a new little hat? Mike's Dad made that for us. Keeps out the water, and really retains the heat.
Looks cute too!
Thank you Paul! XO

So last evening I was talking to my MOM.  I have her hooked on pinterest now.
My sissie is getting married August 10 of next year and we are so excited!
Anyhow, my Mom started looking at my boards of course, and she noticed I have black board placemats.
She said "ya know Deb, those cheese placemats I gave you would be perfect, and you never use them"...true dat, cheese and wine is not my theme anymore.
SOOO...out they came...

from this, to that....

I think I will have some fun with these, changing them up and using them...

I actually wrote on these ones...see how horrible my writing is?

Wish me luck tonight!

Your writing is wonderful-mine would be awful being a nurse for so long. The trees are probably full of acorns because there has been so little rain or wind to knock them out. ♥O

Debbie, I found this on the acorns: "Oaks have a pattern of producing acorns that is called 'masting'. This means that some species in a large geographical area will produce a bumper crop in some years. Next year will likely be light, but some of the other species will be heavy."

Your house looks great! Hope you win at Bunco!

Hi Debbie, I have that acorn problem every year! They are so loud when they hit the house, it makes my dogs crazy. This year I decided to collect some for my fall decorating, might as well put them to use right. I love all things chalkboard and those mats are fabulous, great idea to use them that way. Good luck tonight!

I don't know the "why" but I can tell you lots of acorns are a common occurrence in my area this time of year. Gather them up, put them in a cute bowl.. bring the outdoors in.

Moms ROCK !! What a great idea ... clearly, we now see where your creativity comes from !! I LOVE your new chalkboards ... perfect for splashing all over, Debbie !! And, I LOVE Bunco, too ... when's the party? By the way, when lots of acorns fall like that, it means that you are going to have a LOT of snow this winter ... they're dropping so that the squirrels can "burrough" them through the rought winter! Totally kidding, but I will say I wasn't if, in fact, you get lots of snow! LOL

Debbie, thanks for visiting my blog. I like your mat to chalkboard transformation and believe me there's nothing wrong with your writing. I use to do shorthand, I can barely form the letters for my name... Have fun, and hopefully the acorns won't invade your party tonight.

I'm going to have to just get some green acorns off the tree. I can't get the brown ones in time around here. The squirrels are hogging them all.

The new chalkboards are really cute. Good luck with Bunco tonight!

You need to get you some squirrels. They have been working over time here hiding away all the acorns for winter. They say when that do that it's going to be a bad one. And mine have been busy as can be outside. Deck is spotless, so I guess that's not a good thing. Love, love your fun new idea. Have a great time with Bunco tonight or last night if I'm a day late in getting here.

Your Mom had such a good idea, and one that is quick and easy! I think someone we know will be copying this idea. Me. ;)

I have those little acorns too, and am thankful they don't fall into the pool. We already have a problem with leaves, crepe myrtle blooms and ducks.

Oh I wish I lived near you so I could come over and play bunco too! I used to play in my subdivision, but it's been a while. It's fun. I really like your new idea of painting placemats as chalkboards. Very cute. You can use those all year with little messages etc. I haven't noticed more acorns this year. We always have alot though.

Have fun tonight Deb, and may you win!
I heard that winter is going to be hard this year because the squirrels have been putting there stuff away alot earlier plus the acorns falling like that, probably an old wives tale sure hope I'm wrong!
Thanks for your sweet comment you left on my WIWW post, you and I both know it's alot of fun!

When we were exploring the castle ruins (in the Ozarks) yesterday we noticed a bumper crop of acorns. They are everywhere and falling like rain!

I saw on someone's blog, that they painted the acorn and then glued back on the top. Fun fall colors. You could SPRAY paint them. Hope you win a bunco prize.

Hi Debbie,

I understand completely where you are coming from. We have falling walnuts the size of granny smith apples from our walnut tree in our backyard, there are so many of them even the squirrels have lost interest them!
This is the alternate year...when they fall watch out, I did get one in the back of my head!
Love the new chalkboards, they are going to be so much fun!
Great idea!

All the Best,
Christine

Sounds like the acorn didn't fall far from the tree -- you and your mom are so creative! Were those placemats just the vinyl ones or are they backed with some kind of fiberboard?

Sorry, I haven't been blogging too much lately & some how missed your pizza oven reveal. It is so awesome, & I just love its new hat! I'm showing this to our son who is determined to build one in his backyard.
