I love a mix of styles, but I lean more towards French country and English country. I don't know why I am drawn so to those styles. I definitely love color. Color makes me happy. If I go somewhere and the home is all browns, beiges and just neutrals and then I go home when I get home I go ahhhhhh! I painted my dining room last year from dark blue to sunny yellow and it makes me feel good. My mom loves it, too when she comes over. She and my husband loved the blue and really did not want me to change it, but when I did they both loved the yellow more. I am so glad that my husband gives me full reign over decorating choices. He doesn't have a clue anyway. It would be scary to let him do it. If we had all the money in the world I could just go hog wild and do everything that runs through my mind and have it all done, but since our pockets are not that deep I do everything on a budget. I don't think I have ever paid full price for any furniture or many accessories. I love the thrill of the hunt.

kim, i dont know why we like what we like. im still tring to figure that out. you are talking about my house and i know what you mean about neutral vs. color. my husband also gives me free reign of the decorating but ive never really had a plan. we brought things in from the old place and put them where they fit and then i worked from there. im very color conscious but it doesnt show in the walls. i still havent figured out what style i gravitate toward but i have to stay my home does not really reflect me( im probably kidding myself) our house is all about the lake and IT takes center stage.

Decorating .... I dont think that I decorate with any specific style, I believe what your eyes say good, its good .... obviously with a balance, but it is hard for me to say that I adopt that one particular style, sometime I like vintage style and for some extent I like to go for a very modren look... May be for others its not a practical way to decorate but its difficult for me at go on a single track...
I love decorating, but mainly I love to do things with my own hands, or you can say I love to do handwork and crafting and honestly because of this I oftenly delayed the things, I have thousands of ideas in my mind and cant decide what will be on priority, its my default problem :).. LOL.. When I saw anything stitched or arranged or painted in the market I thought to make it by my own, and obviously its not very easy to have so much time so I delayed my work...
I think Debbie, docrating is default problem in the blood of a woman...:) the difference is that everyone has its own way according to her culture and values and obviously with the weather conditions of that region too

Well I tend to go for anything with Spanish/Mediterranean influence. Making that work with the cottage style of our house is a challenge! I think I like it because of all the places I've been and things I have gathered there. I just love the warm sunny colors. I love wrought iron, Talavera pottery, Persian rugs, leather, handcrafted furniture, big plants, etc. But I also have a lot of family heirlooms of the Southern kind that I love to use. I have discovered that Cuban Colonial style really brings together everything I like including European and American antiques with the casual, warm tropical style. I do not like the "stereotypical" versions of Mediterranean or Spanish. My husband, loves modern Italian. However, he does love the Spanish Colonial style so beautifully portrayed there in Puerto Rico, so we make it work! If I could rip out all my moulding and trim and replace it with dark wood, it would be more authentically Spanish style, but that's not going to happen anytime soon! I think it's all about accessories. I really don't want something that is so confining that it cannot be changed. Like for winter I don't have a lot of Spanish accessories out. That is about to change when this cold and winter are over!

I like all kinds of things, but I think I go for a more traditional/transitional look. I love color. I had a green kitchen, purple dining room and butterscotch on the main areas in my old house. That house was set up to do that.

My new house is very open and I don't think I am going to be able to go wild with a lot of colors. Another thing is that my new house is very dark. We have lots of windows, but for some reason it is just dark so doing dark colors isn't going to be beneficial even though I LOVE them!

I am also leaning toward designs like nyclq on RMS. I would say she is more transitional with a dash of modern for the most part. Sometimes she is totally modern which looks great, but isn't me.

I love Kim's house and Debbie's house! That is very much my style and I look at your pics so much on RMS to try to help me in this house!

I'm very super extremely mucho romantic: I love flowers (geraniums, roses, hydrangeas, lavender...), hearts, angels (I have my colection in a curio cabinet), birds, the colour pink, antiques, clay, cats, glass, gold...

I'm from Spain (Anita, your house has the perfect beautiful touch), so I also like Mediterranean, Spanish, Italian, French... I also love USA country (primitives, quilts, antiques, food, homey, flags, red-white-blue...)

My style now is: messy LOL. This Spring (middle May: yard sale) I plan to start deep-cleaning my whole house (shampoo, paint, weed, garbage, donate) and live... my dream: Shabby Chic! :-)

I never have decorated before... LOL. My walls are light greyish, kim!

Anybody here is shabby chic? or romantic? I would like to cop... :-) I mean, get inspired by your spaces! :-D Thanks!

Begoluna, I love gray, too. I painted a guest room gray this past year and then added navy, cream and red accessories. They pop against the gray wall color. I love it. Most of my downstairs walls in the main area are beige, but then the rooms off of that area are colors.

My style is that I have no style If I see something I love I use it...if I had to pic a style?.... No I just can't do it. there is elements of every style that I like.
So here goes nothing...Oldworld/ country/vintage/Traditional/Romantic.
Its easier to say what I'm not. Not Modern or contemporary, Asian or Southwestern.

I take a long time to make decisions on decorating probably because I have made alot of mistakes. I go on what calls out to me. I am a lithographer by trade which is a blessing and a curse.... when it comes to choosing color. I am enjoying the painting techniques which are available now. I love texture and dimension in wall treatment. I do not like painting pictures on walls...somehow I feel it does not achieve what it intends to achieve.

I have no fav. style I like one and tire and try another its always been that way with me. My husband says its good hes not a drinker because if he came home after drinking hed not know if he was in the right place. I work days and he works longer days (Truck driver) I cant sit in front of a tv or play long on computer I am always arranging painting etc. I feel the home is very clean by moving things often. The homes I clean always let me makeover there homes with whats there. Its a spring and fall thing I do for many. christmas decorating to. They say its fun to come home and see what I pulled together. I do like my bold colors as some of you know. Retro cool would be my fav I guess. But the pocket book doesnt cover it. So until the lottery finds me I am content.

Decorating style. Hmmmmm.........I don't know what mine is! I just use what I like! I know I tend to love cool colors most of the time, but I think they look nice with a little bit of contrasted dark colors. I don't really care for my home to look typical. I like for people to show a little of themselves or their personality in decorating. So anyway, I don't know if there is an actual name for my style, but oh well.

Carol, your taste and mine are similar!!! I do love French country and English country like Kime, but like traditional, romantic, old world and hand me downs too. My house has a flow to it that works and everyone loves my house. My motto: If you love what you put in it, then it will all work. I too have a yellow room, my kitchen/dining room. I always have to have a yellow room in my house and when I had an office, there too. I lean towards earthy colors(not blah, though). Beige, muted greens, yellow, sky blue, and soon lavendar in the girls' bathroom are colors in my house. There has to be flow from room to room and it all has to tie together somehow, accent color downstairs is red in each room. I like old(antique or second hand) things and don't have anything that can't be useful(longaber baskets all have a purpose). Our goal is for people to be relaxed while at our house, in fact I am now working out of my house because necessity after surgery caused it at first, but clients have asked me to stay here because they like it best and are most relaxed here.

I am trying really hard to stick with a couple of styles and be more consistent. I have a bad habit of buying what I like and that spans too broad of a range. I love French Country and Southern type styles. I don't even know if Southern even is a style:-) I like a colorful, warm, charming look. I like it to be cozy and homey. I also want my home to reflect a young, growing family and make sure it doesn't look like older people live there. We bought our home a year and a half ago and an older couple lived here. We're working hard to make it ours right now and trying to decide what exactly is us. I'm currently wanting to paint my living room but since I am NEVER happy with my paint, hubby says I must be 120% sure this time! Oh well...
