FLying~

Today I am using the letter F Vintage alphabet Party~ I thought only for a moment what can I do and say about the letter F...came to me right away...FLYING!!~ First off, I have a FeAr of flying in my  OLD  age.  I have flown on airplanes since I was a baby...in fact at the early age of 5 my Mom even put me on a plane by myself to go visit Gram and Gramps....I loved it, and did it all the time.  It has only been for the past let's say 5-6 years that I have anxiety about it!~ Not to a point of needing a drink or a Xanax YET~! I have learned to wear very light clothing, (in order not to perspire or have it show through my clothing) I do not drink a lot of coffee before hand, and I pray to dear God the entire time! Oh and if you sit next to me, I may talk excessively~! Well anyhow...aside from that what I really want to talk about is my Flying Dreams~!~ Oh how I love those, I soar thru the sky like a bird...like a plane, like SuperMan....I feel so empowered in those dreams, and really want to stay asleep to finish them......I looked up what it all means...you know our dreams do mean something internally....and this is what I found.....
Many dreams are Forgotten or lost by the time we awaken Fully, but that is not usually the case with dreams of Flying.  They are FUN and they are often remembered vividly For weeks.  In general, they also mean good things For us.  We Feel on top of the world and are soaring to great heights in our minds when we Fly.  Flying dreams are very often a precursor for lucid dreaming, a dream state in which we are aware we are dreaming and can manipulate the outcome of the dream.  Even in a dream state, most of us are aware that we can't Fly in normal life, thus on some level a Flying dream likely coincides with dreaming lucidly for the vast majority of the population, though most awaken unaware of the Fact that they were engaged in a lucid dream.

Having said that, interpretation of flying dreams is fairly simple.  Something is generally going RIGHT in our lives!  Occasionally, we may be Flying to avoid something, but the Flying in and of itself is still an enjoyable dream activity, and the WAY we do it may tell us more about ourselves than the actual Flying. So Fly on peeps and have fun!~ Tell me have you ever had a flying dream?

More like a falling dream rather than flying. I just recently picked up a book called The New Secret Language of Dreams. I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I mostly bought it because I thought it was a beautiful looking book.

I love to fly. A little anxious taking off and landing, but love it. My daughter use to love it, but a few years ago she started getting very anxious about it and she does have to take something or not fly.

Well I can't necessarily think of any specific flying dream that I have had. I do think I had some when I was a child, but I can't remember any as an adult. But I do agree that dreams sometimes say so much! I wish the human mind was set up to remember all dreams because as you said most are forgotten. I am kind of curious though about something. Does anybody out here in blog world ever have a repeat dream? Like a dream you might have a few times a year, but for several years? I do have a repeat dream that makes no sense and this has been since I was a child! Just curious!

You do so good on this certain letter day. I have had some terrible dreams, but flying was not one of them. I do not dream very often, but when I do I am always trying to get somewhere. I never can get there. am so tired this next morning.

I have more floating dreams than flying and I love those too. I do have a recurrent dream for as long as I can remember that I am in a giant house, lots of rooms, old and victorian and I explore all the rooms and never get through them all, but the ones I do get through are beautiful with woodwork and secret passages. Love that dream!

The last two airplane flights i was on were full of turbulence, so I might develop a "fear of flying" soon myself if the next one isn't better!

Thanks for your cute comment! You must have traveled over the Brooklyn or Manhattan Bridge form Manhattan to Brooklyn ...lol...the one I show is the Verranzo Bridge between Brooklyn and Staten Island. We have a lot of bridges in NYC!

That was very interesting about the flying dream. I have to get the gumption up to fly. I haven't been on an airplane for about 26 years but we are planning to fly to where my son is living now. Yikes!! I hope I can do it.

I too have lots of flying dreams, and the falling ones. But I LOVE to fly in airplanes! But then I spent 14 years in the Air Force flying all around the world and my husband is a pilot. He loves it so much he has a hard time being on the ground!! Cute post Debbie!!

I had the most vivid dreams of flying à la Peter Pan as a girl. I mean, for the longest time I believed it really happened. What great memories. Now, flying in an airplane is a lot like going to visit a friend for us. We do it fairly often and love it.

I love flying dreams...they are few and far between, however. Mostly I just hover and glide a few feet off the floor. Those are fun, too but can't beat actual flying. Good "F".

I have no recollection of a flying dream, but I did develop a fear of flying after having flown for years. I always got on the plane, but was terrified. Anyway, back in the early 90's I found a fear of flying board on AOL run by an airline pilot. He now has his own board at www.fearoflying.com. It might help just to read the board and sign up for his E-mails. Of course, he's selling his course, but there's a lot of free information on the board. I did get his course, but I think I might have been OK without it after years of reading the free stuff. I'm OK now with flying. In fact, it's now hard for me to believe I was once so terrified.

Wonderful, interesting post for the letter F. I've never had a "flying" dream. Something to look forward too! I don't mind flying at all. I'd rather be in the air than on a highway in a car. Happy Thursday!

I like the way the picture shows the fields as bed quilts, because when I am up in the air looking out the window at farming areas, that is exactly what I think the ground looks like... a big quilt. :-)
I do sometimes have fying dreams... well maybe more like leaping dreams. I leap up in the air and can do the most amazing ballerina moves you have ever seen, as I am suspended in mid air... and this floaty dancy nonsense goes on for a while, until I come to power lines and then I have to try to manuever between those horrors and I am finally relieved to be back down on the ground. So what do you suppose that dream means? :-)

I love that illustration! This was such an interesting post. I've had a few flying dreams, and they always make me wake up happy. And I've become the same way about flying in an airplane. Not so much fear, but it's just gotten so uncomfortable and inconvenient. Not to mention expensive -$50.00 to check a suitcase? I think I'll stick to flying in my dreams! Kathy

Flying and invisibility were my two main dream topics growing up.

I always wanted to fly, and still hope to take pilot lessons some day.

It was always weird though, when I flew in dreams it was kind of like swimming in air. Is that different that flying?

Don't really like to fly in a plane, but then again, it's been 16 years so, I may feel differently now. As for LKatherine, more than likely the recurring dreams hold meaning. For example, I dream about tornados when I am really stressed about something out of my control. I acknowledge this fact and watch the tornado with fascination. In real life, they are scary! I used to dream about cows charging me when I was on the outs with my folks(they love their herd of cattle!) So dreams can be a manifestation of something in your psyche or they may be as simple as replaying your day(or associations with current events in your life). I've always felt that flying dreams give me a peace that eludes me at times and it kind of restores me. Haven't had one in so long, so all most be well for me personally :)

That's so interesting, I didn't know what flying in dreams meant!

I wonder why it is that people move in and out of fears like that? I have had things that didn't bother me at ALL until recently and now I'm just thinking "NOOOOO" anytime I have to do them!

I always said I'd never fly...scared of heights. But a cousin living in another state died and one of my Aunts asked me to fly there with her..
That was 15 years ago..my first and probably ? last time on a plane..
But yes, I've had flying dreams and wake up happy...
Love your blog!

Hi, Debbie,
I am not really crazy about flying either. I try to sit very lightly in my seat ;) to help the plane stay up. I have not dreamed that I was flying very often but it seems that I did a time or two. I enjoyed learning more about these kinds of dreams. Have a week full of fun and laughter! Vicki
