Chat it up Tuesday!!~

Today I have decided no meme's for me!!~ I decided today I would chat it up a bit.  I love to talk, talk often, on the phone, on the computer, to my husband, etc. etc....  I have always been a talker...even in school...shhhh....the boys think I was an angel~~~ (and Mom when you read this you shush too). Yes it is true, I talk a lot!...give me a cup of coffee and WOW you are really in for it!~ Now let me set up the dynamics of my household...I live with all Men! Except for my little pug Lucy, who if she could talk she would.
My son Alex who is almost 13 is my quiet son.  My  8 year old son Jack is the talker.  He talked at a very early age.  Alex did not speak a word until he was 3! I thought something was seriously wrong with him, he would just look at me and follow directions, point to every letter in the Alphabet when I asked him, but never spoke a word.  Turns out nothing at all was wrong, he is just the quiet, soft spoken type.  My husband Mike, he is in between, kind of quiet, yet sociable and very funny.  He is the quick witted type and  has a very large vocabulary.  I must confess when we first started dating, I would go home and look up words in the dictionary because I did not know what the hell he said, I of course acted like I did!!~ I pretended to be smart as well....thank god he thought I was cute and funny, because he later found out....I lacked some knowledge haha!!~ Now that I set the family dynamics up, let me tell you what I really THINK!!~ Have you ever watched Charlie Brown?  Remember the teacher? (Mrs. Donovan)  WHAWHAWHA??? well this is what I am convinced I sound like to Mike and Alex.  I can't tell you how many times I say or ask something of them and they are looking like they are listening...turns out most of the time, they say "what you never told me that"?!!~Now I hear this often of women, that their husbands do not hear them, or pretend not to anyway. Is this just the hard wiring of Men, or are their Men out there that really do listen when their wives talk?  Now I am not saying this is all of the time.  But I do find it to be often.  Then there are times Mike surprises me.  For instance last year we where shopping in World Market, and I saw this cool pop corn maker, it is called the whirly pop.  If you do not have one, I recommend one.  Anyhow, I mentioned casually that day that I thought it was cool.  FOr Mother's day that year, he bought me the whirly pop LOL!!~ Now is that because it revolved around food?  Or was he in tune with me?  Tell me your thoughts on this because I really do want to know....http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:FmqZyustN5dSGM:http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/deadspin/2009/12/good-grief-charlie-brown1.jpg Is this what my family is really thinking?  Oh No Mom is talking AGAIN!!~

Debbie, my husband doesn't listen well. One problem though that he sometimes uses to his advantage is he really does have a hearing problem. He wears a hearing aid in both ears. A lot of times I will start talking and thinking he is listening, but then he says what? Sometimes it seems he says what every time I say something and some days it gets on my last nerve. Then he will go you know I can't hear good you have to get my attention! I really think he needs to get his hearing aids adjusted and cleaned good or a tune up. When he gets them worked on he can hear so much better for a while and then slowly the t.v. starts getting louder and louder. Of course sometimes men just have what we call "selective hearing"!

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. My 8 year old is a chatter box too. Non stop talking, but I really feel apart of his life that's for sure. My two oldest don't share as much, and now that they are teens they have become even more mysterious in a way.

This hits so close to home! I actually wrote about exactly that on one of your other posts. Tom is notorious for that!!!! I am a HUGE talker and Jemma is too! Poor Daddy!!!! Now Jemma has my back and will say Mommy told us that at dinner last night! Ha Ha Ha!!!!!! I have always said I would like to have all our conversations recorded so I can prove that I have told him all the things that he says I never say!!! Wow... diagram that sentence!!!

When my oldest was little she talked so much that we often had to play games such as "Let's see who can not talk the longest" & would tell her politely that my ears were tired. Now as a teenager she is very quiet!Go figure! My husband is the chatty one & I often just tell him to give me the short version! How's that for role reversal!

I find that my son has super selective listening (he's almost 12), but he can fool me most of the time as if he's really in tune with what I'm saying. I'll sometimes get eye contact, head nods, and the uh-huh's that go along with listening, but when I go back to ask a question or talk about the same subject it is as if he has no clue what I'm referring to. My husband is the same way sometimes. I'm getting better at dishing it right back at 'em!

This topic is hilarious! Ok here's my family. My daughter started talking at 8 months old. Very understandable talking. Complete full sentences by 1 year old flat! Oh god I thought. Well yes she talks non stop!!!! I just told my husband the other day that It drive me nuts when she talks from another room! It sounds like Charlie Brown talk is what I told him! Now when I come home I like quiet! Work is enough noise for me! So my husband is the blabber mouth! On and on and on and on! Finally I just have to tell him to be quiet! I can't take it! LOL! Now don't get me wrong, if I have an eventful day or sometimes when I have a really bad day- I'll talk, a lot! But my husband and daughter hold the prize for blabbermouths of the house! And my husband says I don't remember anything he tells me! I wonder if it ever occurred to him that that's because he talks so much I have to zone him out! LOL! So there's my story!

It is not only men. My father-in-law is notorious for "not hearing", my husband is a frequent "non-hearer" and I always thought, huh, men don't hear a damned thing. I always thought this was crap(unless they are like Kim's hubby-hearing aids). I noticed that my fil would not respond to my mother-in-law and my sil, but he would hear me, and I made sure he'd acknowledge that I said something to him, could this be a farse?? HMM, fast forward to when my girls were both talking(about when they were 5 and 2 respectively), I one day noticed that I tuned them out effortlessly. When did that happen?!!! I realized that when someone talks incessantly about stuff you don't care about, it's easy to have a hearing problem. Now, I mean no offense to anyone here, I just think that it starts as self preservation, and then becomes habit, bad habit at that. Oh well, I guess that we can do what I do to the dogs, snap my fingers and then talk. Another annoying habit:)

Erin, I would like to think (fool myself) that I have very important things to talk about all the time!!~ Like who does not want to hear my excessive ramblings SERIOUSLY!!~ LOL
I know what you mean though about tuning out the kids, I have done it, my Mom was really good at that one!!~ LOL I suppose she had to be come to think of it...
