Easter is COming
Martha's mother taught her how to cook. They had large Christmas celebrations and Martha and her mother baked and decorated cookies. Martha also learned the art of canning and preserving at her grandparents' home in Buffalo, New York. She spent some summers there as a child. They taught Martha how to preserve and can vegetables and fruits. These are skills that would prove to be important in her life. She has a neverending supply of ideas and energy and will continue to influence women all over the world. Martha Stewart is living the American dream. Born to a middle class family and now rich and successful. Thought I would share a little history on Martha. Martha is from the same small town I am, Nutley, New Jersey. SOmething I did not know is that Martha too had grandparents in Buffalo New York, as I did as well......
In Germany and Austria, it's customary to celebrate Easter by hanging hollow eggs from the branches of trees
That was then.....and this is..........
NOW!!~ WOW!~
I am glad it all worked out for Martha in the end!~ She has inspired many of us. What do you really think of the debacle with Martha? Do you think she had it easy in jail or NO? I wonder if the inmates where nice to her?

Those decorations are so pretty! I would have never thought about having a candle in an egg! So pretty! I love all of them!
Have a great Wed!

I suspect she was comfortable enough in jail, and the prison authorities kept everyone off of her. I think I could do a year or two easily if I had access to a library. Now I just have to figure out what 'insider trading' is.
I have been a Martha fan when she was only on PBS.
I don't think she had it hard at all in an all women's prison that didn't even look like a prison. I am glad she did her time with dignity.
No matter what anyone else thinks, this lady has class..where ever she is! I'm trying to catch up on blogs, You have a new look...I love it! See ya again soon.
Thanks for stopping by!
I love all of Martha's ideas but as far as me liking her.. I would have to say no. Sorry, I just can't seem to warm up to her.
I don't think jail was good for Martha at all. I was so pissed when they prosecuted her on such flimsy evidence. Total miscarriage of justice (just my opinion) I think the public embarrassment and humiliation she suffered would have destroyed most folks who were in a power position like she was.
I'm proud of how she handled such a terrible situation and now does what she can to help women in prison.
I'm not a fan who watches Martha on a daily basis or anything, I just admire her for what she has done with her life and BTW, I wish I had one of those tulip centerpieces here right now to brighten up my home.
I had no idea Martha Stewart had to go to jail- just googled it- for lying to officials about insider trading?- and then i had to google "insider trading"- ha! sure as hell i learned something- so THANK YOU!
I heard of this lady just last week when i viewed a vide on youtube where she taught how to fold a fitted sheet. She's DAMN GOOD. I've been telling my mum how impressive she is at her age- very cool.
You've just added a LOT to what i knew about her- lovely!
p.s. the egg candles look beautiful.
I think Martha kind of got the short end of the stick with the whole thing. That stuff goes on everyday and they don't all go to prison. I think they were trying to make a point, but she was very lucky that they were so kind to her at the jail. Didn't she knit socks or mittens for everyone there? I WISH I were that crafty!
Debbie, I adore Super Nanny!!!! I used a lot of her stuff even when teaching. The naughty step is a much used, much loved spot in our home!!!! I think a lot of it was just the whole jet lag/up late/up early combo of one of the world's largest temper tantrums! We will laugh at it all one day...maybe... :-)
i always liked martha she is a very smart women the day she got out of jail i stayed up till 1am to watch her get off the plane ialso watched her when she first came on tv and still enjoy her i dont think jail would be fun at all even if she had the cell all fixed up you are still in JAIL i did know she was raised in nutley nj but i did not no she had grand parents in buffalo ny .She is for sure a self made women and did her time with class as she would say (Its a good thing) :)
Love your pics and egg-inspiration! About Martha....you know, she really gave class to homemaking and helped a lot of people learn how to do basic things. I'm not sure that the punishment suited the crime, but I'm glad she is out and having better days. Linda
You know I love and admire so much about her, but she has such a bad reputation for being mean and nasty to people, I can't get past that. And I have heard her make really nasty comments about people in interviews. Plus the "snobbery" gets to me. Other than that, she has such great ideas!! Of course, she has a staff of a million to carry out all her orders!
Pretty decorations for Easter! And about Martha, I think she got it all, but I'm not a fan of her shows or her magazines..
While Martha Stewart might not be the warmest individual, I think she is very talented & driven & deserves her success. She wasn't sent to jail for insider trading, but conspiracy to obstruct justice. Totally bogus, in my opinion.
Debbie, it's cool that you are from the same small town.
I just noticed that the "peachy" table must be a reverse image because the flatware and glasses are all on the wrong side. Surely Martha wouldn't do that, she is such a stickler for details, lol!!
I like alot of martha's ideas/or should I say her creative staff's idea for which she never fails to take credit.... but I have a difficult time actually watching her. I once counted how many times she said MARTHA during a 41 min. 36 second show::the rest is commercials:: she said Martha 188 times- I mean SHE said her own dang name.. I couldnt help but think of that old fable when the guy fell in the pool and drownded cause he couldnt get close enough to his own image to suit himself. Not trying to be mean but I wonder if she'll have a photo of herself attached to the top of the inner lining of her casket in case she wakes up , so she can see her favorite person..... muhahahahahaha
mighty pretty lil eggs though.
PS.. silly me what was I thinking ,, noooooooo she wont have a photo attached,, her image will be screened printed on the ultra satin used for the lining and no doubt it will be Glittered in all the different Martha Stewart colors.using Martha glue..
Thanks for stopping in to my blog. I love yours, it is so inspiring. Boys do rock, I am so excited for another grandson. Have a good day.
Thank you for my award Debbie, that was so sweet of you! I also only gave it to 5 people, hope that's ok...partly because I'm still sooo slow when I write my posts so linking to 12 seemed overwhelming but I hope you'll visit the blogs I nominated, they're all beautiful!
Also, I'm having trouble with my posts, they're not showing up as paragraphs even tho I double space when I'm typing them. They just show up as one long block with no spaces! Do you know how I fix that??? BTW I love those eggs with candles in them! I don't watch Martha, she's too out of my league!
The flowers are beautiful on the cake stand.
I never have gotten into Martha. It just seems unattainble. To involved too. I know that I am probably the only non Martha fan out there:( LOL!
debbie..looks ;like your having fun in blogland..cute easter decor...thanks for sharing..
Hi debbie, i love all these great ideas!!! I might try some of them.....Kathy
Nice ideas! As for Martha, smart? Yes! Inspirational? Yes! Savvy? Yes! Boring as hell? Hell yes! I too don't care for Martha, respect her yes, but like her or to watch her, um, no. Besides, for someone that "knows" so much, she wore pants to a White House dinner, talk about faux pas!
Debbie,
Every day we open the paper to read about an elected official who is corrupt in some way. Perhaps Martha deserved to serve prison time, but if so, she is by no means alone. I remember watching her be interviewed once when she talked about her husband leaving her for another woman who was supposedly her friend. I really felt sorry for her.
Hey Debbie, thanks for stopping by my blog. Sorry, it took so long for me to get to yours. I had a busy weekend which led to a lot of catching up on Monday and Tuesday. Anyway, I love your blog. Esp. The egg candles. What a cool idea!
Great photos- I love the eggshell votives!
I read a book called Martha Inc. about 6 months before the whole Martha debacle started. She wasn't a very nice person to many people, so it is hard for me to feel sorry for her......think Oprah would she ever be jailed for anything I don't think so, too many credits in her halo. However, Martha made being a homemaker in style so I give her that forsure.
Deb, We've been painting and can't wait for you to see the "mustard" color you and Charlotte told me to get...I'll post soon.
Your blog is so informative, and that takes a lot of work on your part! Thanks for enriching us!
Dotsie
Love the Easter displays and I LOVE Martha Stewart, just love her. However, I buy her magazine and always feel so inadequate when I look at the designs and projects. I made one of her recipes during Christmas and had to go to about four stores to get all the ingredients...plus, it took forever. Her stuff is a bit hard for Miss Janice to pull off! I do love her products at Michaels for crafting and I love her Christmas decorations at KMart! Basically, I love Martha, but don't DO Martha well:)
