I'm challenged!
Yes that is correct I am challenged...Fireplace decorating for X-mas challenged. Every year I struggle as to what to do. We have Old World Gothic kinda style and you think it would be easy. Last year I thought I would be a little whimsy with the mantel, looking back now, I think OK..what was I thinking? Kinda looking back on hairstyles. I found a great website sharing ideas, however because my husband will NOT let me move the mantel clock this year, it really puts me in a designer block. Any ideas suggestions would be great! Hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving day.
Here are some great ideas for you. The website was:

I love all this fresh greenery |
Totally fun and very colorful. Now onto my last year mantel My Mantel will look nothing the same this year, however WHAT to do? I have a clock in the middle which I CAN't move as I mentioned. Sorry for the bad pics, was not blogging last year, therefore quality was not an issue:) |

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Debbie.
I like the colorful presents decorating the mantel, but your last year was beautiful too. As for picking an idea, I'm no good at it. I'm sure you'll come up with something wonderful..
I love your beautiful mantle clock Debbie! What about putting something large on either side behind the mantel clock? Then put a garland in front of the clock to make the clock appear a little smaller? Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Can I get back to you on that? I still have a mashed potato and gravy hangover. Love your fireplace...
Hey Girl! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I like what you did with your mantle last year. I don't think you are mantle challenged at all! I tend to get stuck in a rut when decorating my mantle but hope to do something different this year. IDK what yet though! Maybe try thinking in terms of a theme if want to be whimisical. Do you remember the childrens show where the mice broke and then fixed the town clock in time for Christmas? Do you have any whimisical mice? LOL! I love the photo with all the live greenery, I've always wanted to do one of those but just can't bring myself to spend the money on one. I know whatever you do will be wonderful though, can't wait to see!
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! You will figure it out because you are good at challenges!!
Last years mantle had such a frosty and dreamy look to it! I loved it!
Hi lovely lady, I love your 2009 mantel ```I know your new one will be just as Beautiful for the Holidays coming up.I hope you had a Great Thanksgiving Day ~~`
Well I am certainly not qualified to be giving suggestions as I loved your look last year, I wish I had the talent you have in your little finger! Can't wait to see what you do
i would just load that mantel up with some beautiful greens ans maybe scatter some of those huge orniments you can find at different stores....nothing like fresh greens
I know what every you do it will be beautiful. Happy Day after Thanksgiving. I'm ready for some holiday decorating myself!
The clock is beautiful and whatever you decide to do will be wonderful..
Holiday Hugs
Sonny
No tips for you I'm afraid....however I know whatever you come up with will be beautiful :o) Good luck!

Hi Debbie, I love your mantel last year, very nice! I wonder why men have to get involved with our decorating, lol, I wish they could refrain sometimes, just kidding! I think if you embrace the clock and just go with it you'll love it, just add some nice greenery, a big bow in the center under the clock and some different size candles on either side of the clock or even use some candle holders in differnt heights and top each with a nice big ornament. Can't wait to see what you do!
Hugz,
Kim
I love the mantel with all the bright colorful packages and ornaments.
My mantel is very deep so it takes a lot to not look bare. In the past, I've done a Santa's Workshop, which is cute and the kids love it. Most recently, I've gotten tree clippings from the Christmas Tree Farm and then decorated it with red ornaments, beads and candles.
I'm ready for something new this year, but I'm not sure what.
Good luck! I look forward to seeing what you come up with. La
oh my gosh, those presents on the wall. i have artwork above my tv stand which could easily be converted to wrapped gifts. you've got those wheels turning, so glad you shared those pics!
good luck with your mantle, and hope you had a good turkey day!
Very pretty ideas Debbie! I can't wait tp see how it turns out.
Happy weekend to you all.
~Melissa :)
I super love the fresh greenery and I bet it would look great with the mantle clock.
What? I love this!! You do stuff that is true to you, but can be elegant or spunky or both and it always looks totally fabulous! I am mantle challenged as well, but I think you have a better handle on this than you think! My advice, think about that lampshade in your GR and treat the mantle like you're dressing yourself? What the heck, it worked for the lampshade!
That's the thing about Christmas decorating...there are SO many styles and I love them all! So do you stick with one? Mix them up? Change completely? (Who has the $'s for that one?) What's a girl to do?
Can't wait to see what you do this year! Even with the clock!
I love what you did to your last year mantel! Very whimsical and fun!
I think you will have no problem coming up with a great look!
HAGD,
Cindy
Your last year's mantel looks great to me!
You will come up with something new for this year, cause you are one creative gal!
Happy Thanksgiving weekend.

I love last years mantel. Sometimes working with the type of fireplace rather than against it is best. I finally hit on a mantelscape 2 years ago that I love and repeat...just changing up a few things here and there. That's the fun of it!! I love the clock, by the way!
XO,
Jane
I'd put Santa and the tree all over the place!!! I love Santa and everything about Christmas! :) :) :)
I might not really be helping. Ahh. I tried! Reaching out and giving you a big hug!!
Wow, molto belle queste decorazioni natalizie !
Buona serata :)
Myriam
Hi Debbie Dear. You know what? For some reason I have a feeling you will decide what to do to your mantle and it'll be wonderful - just like everything you do!!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I loved your mantel from last year - I also love the first picture with the fullest greenery I have seen on a mantel - I think that is my favorite! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us! Everything you do with your designs always turns out so great, your mantel will too!
Aww..Debbie- You know that no matter what you will do we will love it-remember the "painted pumpkins"...uh-huh...thought so! Anyway, if I DON'T like it- you know me...I'll be razzing you about it!
Is the top one yours from last year? I wasn't around then. Hmmm..I suppose if I were ambitious enough I could scroll over through your side thingy there and find it, huh?
Anyway...hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving. We did-even though I worked...sigh...I guess I could complain but I won't since I volunteered;>)
Pictures of the decorated mantle, please. I am doing my mantles different this year too! Not sure how yet...but different. Hugs-xxoo Diana
Girl, I would help you if I could figure out what to do with mine! I loved yours last year with all your boas! So cute! You will rock it. Can't wait to see! I am thinking of going simple with mine this year. We will see what we come up with!
Thanks for stopping by Southern Comfort in a Northern Life:) My hubby is the best!
I can't even think about Christmas. I am still trying to get my house unpacked! Can you come and decorate for me? LOL!
I thought you were giving us choices and I was going to pick the colorful one......That was yours, so, I vote for last years hair style!
Carol
I'm mantel challenged this year too so I doubt I'll be any help with giving you suggestions.
I always put my Dept. 56 Christmas Village on the mantel, but I decided to move it this year and now I'm suffering from that decision.
(I saw that picture with the brightly colored presents too & thought that might be easy for me to manage.)
I'm sure whatever you decide, it'll look wonderful.
I have a hard time decorating my mantel too. I'm sure whatever you do will look great!
Happy Thanksgiving! I adore the greenery and pine cones in the first pic. Thank you for sharing.
Great inspirations. I hope you come up with a neat idea and I am sure you will. You can put a garland around it, can't you?...Christine
Hi Debbie~
Oh mantle issues!!! I hear you! Sometimes it seems like the mantle can be hard to decorate- too much - it's too much... too little... blah... etc. Last years mantle looked beautiful- I know you will come up with something inspired that will work beautifully! :)
Oh girl, what ever you do always turns out, so go with what feels right. I have seen so many decorated mantles and no matter what they always seem to look great when the lights are low:)
Terry
Debbie,
Great photo's. I love what you did with your mantle last year. The white against the red and green looks awesome.
Sorry, Don't have any great idea to share, but I know you are going to come up with something that looks beautiful! have fun planning :)
Wendy
Girl, I am diggin that second one, that is so me...but wait, this is about you...sorry....got distracted. Your mantel last year was gorgeous. Just let the clock be your centerpiece and decorate around it. You'll find your groove, you always do:)
xo
LeAnn
I love the richness of the greenery and pinecones in the first one, but also love all the bright, fun, and funky colors of the second one. By the way, I bought some of those fun ornaments in the second vignette last year at Michael's!
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!
The mantel is the hardest place for me to decorate, too!
It's just such a major focal point, we frustrate ourselves trying to perfect it.
I like Pam's idea!
This year, my Christmas motto is: KISS.
Keep It Simple Sister! :)
Whatever you do is always awesome!
My hubby and I just had a tift over the big clock on our piano.
I moved it because I wanted to change up the decor and he was not happy because he no longer knew what time it was in that room. Imagine that? LOL!
I found a smaller clock and we were both happy. I think.
Either way, it's our job to work with challenges, isn't it *wink?
Hugs!
Oh you've done a fabulous job!! I love all the images up there.. the green.. and the colourful ones.. All are gorgeous!
Love the mantle. Coming by to say I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with family. I wish I had a fireplace, always loved them. However, when we move to the country in a few years, my new home must have one!
