This was EASY!
Before |
During the process. We had some left over paint from our dining room, which is a shade darker than the kitchen area. I like the contrast |
At first we were not sure about it. Then we added that old fanny paddle that is the same color as our cabinets, I think it works fabulous now. ( My Mom gave us the paddle years ago), she thought instead of calling in Super Nanny we could try this first. Would you like to see a close up of the fanny paddle? Funny Jack asked me the other day, just why did I hang this on the fridge, and did I plan on using it? I said of course, it is tradition, Nana used it on me and my sister. (NOT REALLY calm down) FYI, my husband used two sided tape to adhere to the fridge. So in the future we can always remove it if we so wish to. I wanted him to do bead board on the sides of the island, but he gasped at the mere thought of covering this wood. So I guess NOT! Joining Susan For MM |

Wonderful idea, such a beautiful kitchen! The frig looks great and I love the paddle!
What a wonderful idea, Debbie! Looks great!!! Happy New Year 2011!!!
Liesl :)
That does look really great. Nice to have a husband that is so handy!
Debbie get you some liquid nail and do the side of that island! lol..You are right though it would really look good:)I really love what you did to the fridge! Looks amazing as always. Every thing you do looks good to me though. Im a huge fan:)
Men like their wood to look like wood! That is a great idea. I like that it's removable also.
I think it looks great...and I would definitely go for it on the island. It would be a nice contrast.
You are so smart!!! Love it when a plan comes together:)

What a great idea...looks great..
At least you only have a sliver of fridge showing. Almost the whole side of mine shows. I would love to cover the whole thing with wood. Great idea!
Okay, I really like this idea. It would keep me from making the side of the fridge a magnet burial ground:o)
Great idea ! I have a counter depth fridge, so no peak-a-boo side, but the twin's kitchen on the third floor does.... hmmmmm - I may need to experiment !
thanks for sharing !

Debbie I love it!! What a great idea!!
Looks great Deb...I always hated looking at the side of my fridge that I had before. I went to a counter depth fridge but it's just that much smaller that I miss the bigger one! Never happy! Well, anyway, it looks very nice!
Since we got a new updated fridge last year, ours sticks out from the cabinet too. It looks pretty bad since our cabinets are a honey (orange) wood stain and the fridge is white. (The rest of the appliances are old, so we got the fridge to match.)
I'll have to consider this idea to see if it would work in our house. It looks nice in yours!
Debbie that looks so nice on the fridge!! Love it. I am planning on putting beadboard around our island this year but I also like the look on the sides of the fridge! Great job!!

Debbie: You come up with the best ideas!! Now that beadboard looks awesome..I never would have thought to put it there! I do love beadboard and have many ideas for its use...built in window seats in my office/craft room for one!! I am also in dire need of new counter tops (can't stand what was here when we bought it)...are yours granite? I hear that's hard to maintain and porous...looking for low maintenance but high quality.Any ideas? Thanks in advance. patti
ps What kind of DS tape did Mike use?? industrial type-is there such a thing??
I love that!!!! That is a super fabulous idea and just blends in so beautifully!
I've never really paid attention to your kitchen cabinets much before, I must have been looking at all the accessories but have to say that is the star of the show there, such beautiful woodwork there...no wonder he doesn't want to cover it up, is that Maple or cherry? So so pretty.
Looks so good, Debbie! He used tape? Amazing! That little paddle is a hoot! I know you don't use it on your darling boys! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Looks great Debbie! I love the yellow accent! I think it would look great on the island. Are you sure he won't reconsider?
That looks really great. Looks like it's part of the wall.
Thanks for the follow, I really appreciate it! I'm now following you as well! :)
Ha-ha! :)
As I was looking at the last picture, I thought "Hmmm, it'd look awesome on the island and really tie the whole thing together."
Guess it's a no-go if hubby doesn't want to cover the wood! I like the fridge though, it looks good...I love the color, too. Good job!
wow it looks great fits right in poor Jack wondering about that paddle .glad you told everyone i never paddled you :)
Καλή Χρονιά!!

That is Heavenly gorgeous! What a brainwave!!
Debbie, what a great idea and it looks awesome!
Have a wonderful day,
Gail
Easy and a great look. I agree it would look good on the side of the island too!
Awesome idea!
We have the same issue except our fridge is right next to the back door [which leads into the garage and that whole side [which is right next to the door] is exposed. ick!
Hi Debbie,
What a great idea...it looks WONDERFUL and really ties in with the rest of your gorgeous kitchen! Well done, girl! XOXO ~Liz
Debbie, that looks wonderful! I love that idea! I could have used that one in our old house, we had the same amount of the fridge peeking out as yours. I really like how you painted it too. I've got some leftover beadboard from our island redo that I've been wanting to add on the wall in the corner of my kitchen where we drop stuff and hang coats, but the Mr. says it's not enough. Regardless, you have given me another idea what to do with the leftover beadboard on something else I've been wanting to change out a bit. Double stick tape, huh? Thanks!
I like this a lot and I think the color contrast is just right. What is it about men and wood?
That really looks great. What a smart idea. Nice to have a handy husband.
Looks great, Debbie-How wonderful to have a hubby that can do that kind of stuff...or at least WILL do that kind of stuff. I have beadboard on the sides of my island too and love it. Hugs- Diana
Your kitchen is gorgeous! Thanks for following my blog--I am now following you back. :)

It looks great, Debbie. I would love to have a roomy kitchen like yours. La
Love this....your kitchen is amazing. Have a great day, Deb.
I actually like the idea- it makes the fridge much less obtrusive! Good thinkin' girlie! You may not have gotten paddled, but I sure did! Must have been a bad girl...
~ Sue
Looks terrific, or should I say you don't notice it? Both! It looks terrific and it does make the fridge blend more. I will have to try this out, this is fab and would work really well in my kitchen!
Great idea, Debbie. Looks fab and the fanny paddle is a fun touch. Happy New Year!
Debbie, you are so clever! We just got a new fridge and it sticks out also - I think I'll need to wait a little bit before I can convert it! ~Marcy
Debbie - what a great idea....I have always noticed the sides of the fridge sticking out but your idea completely hid that!! Love the accent color and love the fanny paddle!!
Hi this is Nicole from Colie's Kitchen! Thanks for follow us, we are following you back www.colieskitchen.com
It looks great Debbie! That is an idea I have been toying with. With mine it definitely needs to be a temporary fix because I have high hopes of replacing my appliances within the next several months. Your kitchen looks great!

Hey girl, that looks great! We did the same to an old, ugly green fridge only I stained and Polycrylic-ed it. Looked just like part of the wall! I love that yellow. Great job. Thanks for sharing!

You always have the best ideas :)
XO
It looks great! I was a little skeptical at the beginning of the post, but it really turned out amazing!
Hi Debbie!
Now I'm following your blog too!
You have such a beautiful home.
This was such a great idea! I too have the big ole fridge. And it bugs me that it sticks out so far.Perfect solution! And that spanky paddle is darling! I agree the beadboard would look great on the side of the island! What the heck is it with men and wood? Mine cringes at the thought of it being painted *sighs* And I REALLY want to paint me some wood! Lol! Vanna
Your kitchen is just gorgeous! You really give me cabinet envy, and I may have to try that beadboard trick.
Like always Debb great idea,
Happy New Year
