Coffee talk series time!

Been a while since I have done a coffee talk series....
thought it was time!
My Blogging friend Cindy is hosting a series as many blogger out there are, regarding some tips and tricks she has learned along the way.
You can check it out here.

I am ALL about learning more each day, not only with blogging, but in general life!
Knowledge..

knowl·edgeNoun/ˈnälij/

1. Information and skills acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.
2. What is known in a particular field or in total; facts and information.

Cindy talked about linky parties.
This was a great topic, and one I was very confused and conflicted with in the beginning stages of blogging

This is my take, for what it is worth,
 and it works for me.
A happy cartoon girl running and smiling. Stock Photo - 7205959

I have been blogging for almost two years, my two year anniversary will be in January.
I have established friendships from the get go, and still have most of them today here on my blog.
I do make new ones as well along the way.

I believe for me, most of my friendships made here were through commenting, and visiting often in the beginning stages of blogging.
If a blogger sees you active out here, sees you commenting, there is a good chance, she is popping over.

Bloggers want comments, and friendships too!

HOWEVER,  some bloggers also want Traffic.
Traffic can mean several things to several different bloggers.
If you have google ads, the more traffic, can lead to clicks on your placed google ads, which in turn generates cash.
If you are a member of Blogher, the more traffic, the more impressions to your page, which also generates cash to your blog.
Sponsors looking to advertise, or do guest posts, also look for the blogs that are higher traffic.
Oh, and I must add...put your very best out there. Good photo's, good content and people will follow, and most importantly, always be yourself.
Hey even show your worst, we all need a good laugh sometimes.
(Just be sure to tell us this was your worst)
Hate to laugh at ya, if we were not suppose to!
I don't know all the ins and outs, and again, I am learning every day.
These are just my opinions, and some may agree or disagree.
If you are a NEW blogger, you need to establish friendships and a following.
And you do not have to have thousands of followers to receive comments. Just put yourself out there and get to be a familiar face.

This does NOT happen overnight, trust me.  Work it!

MY NEWBIE party has established that, I do believe. Or at least  it should be a jump start to establish your friendships, connections and readership.
Again, you need to work it. It will come back to you!
Once that is in place, you will have your continued visits from your established friends.
As those are the gals that will be loyal to your blog and come visit and comment.

Debbiedoo's blogging and blabbing

The large linky parties, are wonderful in the sense,
they can bring you the TRAFFIC, and some LOTS of TRAFFIC.
Not to say smaller linkies do not bring you a lot of traffic as well.
Because they certainly do!
Large linkies can also form friendships, you just need to work that large list!

I honestly, can't keep up with all my comments, and I certainly do not expect others too. Sometimes, we just can't and it is just nice in general to leave someone a kind comment.
In fact, when I see someone has 0 comments, and they linked up to 10 parties, I do comment on their post.  They took so much time and effort to do that post and link it up.

So are you looking for more traffic? Or more friendships and readership? Or how about all of the above?

You see there are pros and cons,
it is just a matter of how you look at it.

It is up to you on a personal blogging note, and blogging path you are on,
how you work it, and what you are looking to get out of blogging.
My friend Donna, is also doing a wonderful series, and you can go check out her wise,
words of wisdom.

See you later for the NEWBIE party!

ONE more thing for the road.
Hosting a linky party is a lot of time and work.  Even if you do not receive a comment from the host, do not think she/we/me is not coming over to your blog and checking things out.
Remember one thing, you are using the hosts blog to gain more traffic and readership to your site.
If a host has 200-300 links on her page, there really is no realistic way she can come and comment to you all.
That was one major thing I learned along the way.  I could not understand why a host never came to visit me and comment, after all she was the host of the party. A lot of gals will have  different feelings toward this one, I have heard it before, and I know some just stop joining that linky because the host never once came over.
Please always keep in mind you can't be all things to all people.
I try to visit you all, but I know sometimes, I can't, I get sidetracked and I would be sititng here 24/7.  I have a family, activities, a home to keep, blah blah blah..
Time just does not allow it.

I do appreciate every single one of you..your participation and your friendships...
XO

You have helped me and my blog so much, a big hug to you!!! I've said it before and I'll say it again I don't know how you younger bloggers do it with kids and so much more to do in the home than I do at this time in my life, which I'm enjoying I might add but I remember those days as a young mother and the need of each one of my four children, now to me bittersweet memories!
I still to this day want to join in on your Newbie party but I know I can't, I'll always remember how it helped me though and also when you featured me...I think I danced around the room that day♥
Cheers to you my friend!

Debbie, thanks so much for these very helpful hints! I have met some truly great women over the past couple of weeks; and established some great friendships. It all starts with a simple comment! Your newbie party is a great avenue, as well. It's a great jump start for any newbie! Thanks for sharing these tips!

You gave some great tips! I usually comment back to everyone that leaves me a comment and have certain blogs that I follow religiously. I get frustrated when I comment and follow them so closely and it's not reciprocated. But, then I have to realize that not everyone monitors their comments the same way. Heck, I'm just happy to know that SOMEONE is reading my blog! Ha! I'll take what I can get. I'm not making any money on my blog so I try to just have fun with it.

Great post! When I started blogging, my competitive spirit kicked in and I thought I wanted to be a "big" blogger with a huge following. I quickly got over that as I started actually blogging and realized that I was here to make friendships, find inspiration and share the stories of my family. My blog is mainly for our family to keep up with us as we have always lived far away from everyone. I figured out quickly that I am creative but lazy when it comes to doing my ideas and that is o.k.! I am slow on projects and that is o.k.! I blog when I can and that is o.k. too! I blog for fun and enjoy the time that I do! It is what you make of it and I am happy!

I notice more and more bloggers, those who used to stop by and comment, are now using the reply by email option. I'll make a long comment on their post and get an email saying "Thanks!". That's kind of a turn off lately. But you are and have always been a loyal and faithful commenter:)

Debbie, you are a wonderful example of a great blogger. It is partly because of all that you do to help other bloggers get started. However, there is more to it. You are first and foremost a uniquely good person. Your caring attitude is engrained in your personality and spirit. The rest comes naturally. Thank you for being Debbie, the inspiration for all of us. Love you girl, Ginger

OOO...
In the 4 yrs I've been blogging, I have never, not one time, ran out of blogging material. Most of the time, before I can get the photos finished and my post ready, I am already planning the next. So, bloggers, just post from your heart..things you love...things that interest YOU. Once people see how you really feel about things, thru your posts, they will come back to read more.

Starting a blog IS HARD WORK! If you don't have the time? It goes down hill quickly, you really have to take the time, you are 100%right. Debbie...wish I would have seen this post a few months ago lol
Seems you have always made the time to stop by my blog and I REALLY appreciate that. As a busy mom of a busy teen I have a very limited amount of time....she recently injured her foot and now she cannot run cross country :( this leaves me free time to catch up, VERY BITTERsweet!
Thanks for hosting, it's been so helpful for me!

Really, really good post. Thanks for sharing things we have all thought. I struggle with commenting...mostly keeping up. I try very hard to return every visit but of course many times I fall short. I'm trying though so I guess that counts for something. I wish I could blog full time but that's not going to happen so I need to accept my time limitations. Easier said than done. By the way, your Newbie Party is the best...I still miss it.

Well said! You nailed my thoughts completely with the "you can't be all things to all people" comment. I think blogging is a learning process, often quite a bit about yourself. Not sure I'll ever totally figure it out but at least I am realizing some of what is and is not important to me. The best part of blogging has been the few friendships I've made along the way, oh and learning how to take better photos too. That's fun!

Hey, Deb!!
Great post!!
I think we have all experienced everything you have talked about.
I blog to learn from others, to meet new people and to make friends and to have fun.
When I come home in the morning after working all night, the first thing I head for is not the bed but the computer. I want to see who is up to what. It helps me unwind, brings a smile to my face and maybe gives me a good laugh. The crazy hours i work are not conducive to freindships. But through blogging, I can check in on my friends any time i want.
and you are right, the more you comment, the more comments you get.
Blogging is a personal thing for me so as of right now, I don't want any advertisements on my blog. Nothing against anyone who does have them. Now maybe when I have to quit working, I may consider the ads on my blog but for now, for me personally, I am good without them. So I guess I don't care about traffic....
I think most of us want to share our lives with others and through blogging , we get to do it on a large scale!!
LOVE this post, girl!!

Hugs,
Deb

Such GREAT advice on this one Debbie! I agree with every word of it especially about needing to work at building those relationships. Just like friendships in the "real" world, blogging friendships need to be invested in. And, oh, if only we could visit everyone who linked up to our party! I agonize over not getting to make it around to everyone but truly I would have to be ignoring my family in order to do that and well...obviously my family comes first!! Anyway, thank you for pointing that out too!
Blessings to you for being so open and honest and helping others through the maze of bloggy craziness. :-)
