mE and mY pUrpose....
SO I guess you can say 2010 is my defining year! What I mean by that is I figured out my purpose. I have always known wE all have a purpose. Some question it deeper than others. AltHouGh, not strong into my upbringing in Catholicism I do believe in God, as he has blessed me with a wonderful life. I believe my friends and family would describe me as the friend you can always call. I will always lend you my ear or help you out with something. I know many, dirty little secrets....WELL, not all dirty, but many. I suppose people trust me and they feel it to be safe. Your secrets are safe with me and always will be as long as I gave you my word, my word is good! I often wonder if I should have went into counseling, although, so dysfunctional myself, that would be scary for YoU, if you where my patient. So I will stick to just listening and helping you out, I have earned my masters degree in that! With that being said, that is what my "ahhhhh"moment as described by OpRah.....(I don't want to get sued) was recently. It's time to start blogging! I love interacting with people and being social, most of the time. I have a wonderful circle of family and friends. I do have times I just like to be quiet too, and lay low with my family. That is actually what I truly treasure most in life, my family time!
SiNce I have been a child, I have been very creative. I watched my Mom hang curtains, change place mats, move furniture etc. I once choked on a curtain hook while sitting on the bed watching her, I guess I got bored LOL! I was only 3 years old. By the time I was 8 years old I would change the X-mas decorations around to my liking, not sure if she noticed, and I am not sure if that was me being creative or a control freak....you do remember I mentioned dysfunction?? For the past 15 years I have really set my sites out. I tried my hand in painting, which was a miseRable fail. I did abstracts, my first one was a masterpiece, we even hung it behind our couch. After that it was all down hill. I then built a beautiful dollhouse, which my Mom still has. That was my first and last one. My husband wound up helping with the roof and I was done with ever building again. For a short time I also was making magnets, that lasted about one month. From there I started garbage picking furniture, as my Mom taught me that as well. That has somewhat been a success. The last time I tried to pick garbage my 8 year old son lost his mind, he screamed and cried because he thought I was committing a crime, so we escaped with very little as we made a very fast getaway. I have found some nice things though and painted them and actually have used them. Our first LoVe and passion in decor is our antique collections, which in time I will be showing you all and telling the story behind them. We are now making our own history with them.
LeT the decorating begin, well that is what my friend Lisa in South Florida encouraged me to set my mind to do for others. She decided we would have a small business, myself, her gay brother, his partner and of course, LiSa, she was the manager. Our first job was a promo for my friend Christa.Christa needed a bedroom makeover. So we decided we would be like design on a dime. She gave us a 500.00 budget for accessories, not including the paint. Well we where even nice enough to paint the room, mind you this all was for free! It turned out fabulous and we where really onto something now. We where now the "FAB" 4! I know very original. We would shop together, hang out together and just have a ball. That is until the day Christian was in a minor car accident, and we where scheduled for a BiG job. The job had to go on, and Christian was upset. Lisa and I packed up the car and off we went. I was never so scared in my life! At one point Lisa was under the glass coffee table moving furniture around, and I thought I heard a crack, well I ran outside in a complete panic state. Lisa knew nothing about decorating so I knew I had to finish this job. I did, with yet again another huge success. I wound up going on a few more jobs myself and doing well. I quickly realized though I was not having fun, I was stressed. I ended it. NoW I will do it for fun for friends, I do not want it as a job!!
So now let's talk about the past YeAr experience in my creative world. It started one boring, Sunday morning. I was browsing on HGTV website and saw RMS. I thought "that looks fun"! ( I know, I should have been at church). Well my first upload began, from there it has been wonderful...... OvErAll! I have made many new friends with creative minds and beautiful homes to share. I have improved my home, and my photography skills to say the least. SeVeral of us have had a bad experience with users on the site that want to bring the community down. I can honestly say I have never had anyone bad mouth my home. They chose to come over and use the rating system to put me down. I do believe it was strictly out of jealousy and anger with oneself, and it has nothing at all to do with me. I am certain long after MysElF and others are gone, they will go on to the next person. I will say I was given wonderful comments and shown such kindness and EncoUragement. Even to start this blog...I had some of you mention you would support it, and love it. The nice thing is I can control who comes and says what, because if I do not like it, there is a delete button! The only stars on my blog are YoU ALL!! So thanks for being here! I am looking forward to a lot more fun! And let me mention, I am by no means a writer, and I am sure there are many grammar and punctuation errors....so pardon me, I was day dreaming in sChool, of decOrating and what outfit I was going to wear the next day!!

I absolutely have to tell you of a similar story about my 8 year old and I on a "Craigslist Run" as I call them:-) I found a totally awesome hutch that came out of a 150 year barn on a farm about an hour from my home and the price was right so, I recruited my youngest and off we went. Believe me, I know better than to even respond to a post for bigger items without first measuring the interior of my truck but, for some reason this time I didn't. So, we get there and low and behold it doesn't fit. The lady has to call an elderly neighbor on another farm closeby to come and help us strap it to the top of my vehicle so my son and I could be on our way. About 30 minutes later after we finally got to paved roads and onto the closest highway to my home (speed limit 70 mind you), my son and I started out for home at a blazing 40 miles per hour. Needless to say, he started freaking out in the car sure that we were certainly driving to our death. At the first available exit I decided to count my losses (a whopping $25.00) and pulled onto a deserted road and flung the hutch off the top of the truck (wood is bio-degradable, right?). I will never again do this without measuring and, with my son in tow:) Thanks for listening!
OMG that is funny! Well my son just thought we where stealing! It was garbage, he could not get it thru his head!
Totally something that my 12 year old would think!!!
I didn't figure out till a few years after school that I love to decorate. I really wish I had gone to school and made it my career, but I didn't. Of course I would not have met my husband and had my wonderful kids if I had. I love looking at decorating mags and books and watching shows on t.v. The thing I like the most is to go on home tours or go to show homes which they have pretty often in the Atlanta area. My sister and I will usually go together since we share the same passion. I am always thinking of different things I can do or want to do in my home which I must say drives my husband nuts. He says are you ever going to be through and I say probably not. That is why I should have been doing this and making money at it, he even says that. I have helped one of his sister's twice with two different homes and I redid my mom's dining room Nov. 2008. She doesn't need decorating help because she is quite good herself which is where my sister and I got it from. She wanted my input on color for the walls and I helped her pick out new furniture. I painted the room for her and she paid me which I did not ask for, but it was fun getting paid for all that work. I do say her room turned out beautiful. I have had several people say it is not to late to go back to school to learn design, but at fifty-four I say it is. I will just continue to do my home and help anyone else that ask.
In high school I wanted to be a dress designer, but my parents wanted me to go to Loyola Marymount University since it was a Catholic institution. My major was Business & hated it except for my electives which were all Art. After LMU I went to FIDM for fashion design & worked in that field for several years before having kids. The fashion manufacturing business is not very glamorous... one works in a boring building in a not so good part of town. The hours are long, but producing a line is very satisfying. I took a couple years off to have kids. My husband always wanted to leave Southern California, so to appease him I did some research & found that the South might be a good place. We decided on either North or South Carolina. We planned to move several years later, so I went back to school to study interior design since there wasn't a fashion industry in the Carolinas. After moving to Charlotte, I answered an ad for closet designer, since it was part time & my hours could be scheduled during the time that my girls were in school. I loved planning & organizing & helping people solve their storage problems. A few years later I went on to learn Kitchen, Bath, Cabinetry Design & that is what I have been doing ever since.
I have learned that I would be happy designing fashion, interiors, landscapes, etc. I know that I have to be creating something.
Long time ago, when microwaves were BIG and heavy, me and my husband (mostly me) found one sitting on top of a big garbage container. We knocked on the door and asked politely if we could take it. The lady replied yes, and we took our treasure.
Back at home, my husband took a look at it and said it just needed... a fuse! A nice neighbour, one that we had just showed off our garbage/treasure, gave us one.
And that's how we got us a totally free micro. We didn't even pay for the replacement fuse!! :-)
Oh, if that lady had have an smart husband!!! :-D
i know noone will see this because its from last week but im still trying to see if i can figure this blog thing out. i come from a very large family and so does my husband. we also together have a large family which still takes up a lot of my time even tho they are are grown and on their own. i married before i finished college at buffalo state. i was taking courses in teaching special needs children. thank goodness i didnt finish because i know now i would not have been good at that. i can remeber in the early grades , times when the teacher snatched away a paper i was drawing on while she was lecturing. i was making floor plans of a bedroom that i wanted. sometimes i wished i had studied interior design but on the other hand im glad i didnt. it might have taken the fun out of what i do . i dont accept money for doing decorating because i dont want the responibility of what goes along with that. i have helped over 100 family and friends and friends of friends over the last 2-3 years. talk about obsessive. when i have a job,my mind is nowhere else. my purpose? i learned from the nuns that we are all made to the image and likeness of god. how much closer to our creator can we be but when we are creating.
Debbie, so so glad that I logged onto Hgtv the other day, and saw you started a blog. I was so happy for you and others. I have always liked your posts and was upset when others got to you. I too get aggravated by mean posters and by nature, I am a protector, so I always feel compelled to stand up for others. What I am getting at is this: you have a lot to offer people just by your positive energy and your love of life and people. I hope that this blog develops into a big thing and that you are able to touch a ton of people with your kindness and supportive nature. I will try to stay in touch with your blog and follow your "movement". Not suprisingly, the aesthetics of this blog are beautiful, as are you my dear, inside and out!
I hear ya sista!! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving comments on my fabulous Audrey Room on HGTV! I gotta say I have recently discovered the same things as you! I love art and design and helping people out. Having a blog has opened the door to soooo many new friends! Who knew a blog could be such a good thing?
I'll keep stopping by!
All the BEST!
Kelle
Debbie, I am so glad that you found and followed your passions this year. So we could become blogging friends and so I could learn so very much from you! With decorating & crafting of course; but mostly about what a true friends and a genuine, kind, awesome person should be, Debbie!!

Coreen
