I think most everyone goes by first impressions to create an opinion about someone and it is probably wrong most of the time. It is human nature to do that though. We cannot judge a book by it's cover so to speak. I know I have been guilty of this several times. I will see someone very well dressed and put together and would think they must be quite well off and my banker husband would say or very deep in debt. He would always say you have no way of knowing what people do or don't have just by looking at them and it is so true. My husband has one sister that is in her seventies that when she is at home she dressed like a bag lady and will not run her air conditioning in the summer and barely runs her heat in the winter (I hope she is lately since it is very cold here) just to save money. She always shares plates of food when she goes out to eat, too. She actually is very well off from her husband's estate, but I guess she is going to leave it all to her son's and one grandson. I say take care of yourself first. Her sons are not poor and they are grown men that can work and provide for themselves. There is no point in burning up in the summer and being cold in the winter for them. Hey but if that is what she has in her mind to do no one is going to change it because she is stubborn! Also since 9/11 we are guilty of profiling people especially in airports, but I think maybe we need to do more of that since the last failed attempt to blow up that plane. I know I hope they put those better x-ray machines in at the Atlanta airport where we go all the time so the screening is more accurate. It is ashamed our world has come to this.
My husband and I try to instill this very quote in our 14 year old daughter. You only have once chance to make that first impression. We moved her from Catholic grade school with 9 kids in her class (3 of them are her cousins) to public middle school (with 300 plus kids) last year. We talked about this because she barely knew anyone. She has a few friends from playing soccer but basically she was the new kid in a huge school. Going into the 7th grade and being a girl especially was going to be challenging. At this age most kids have already developed their friendships. Well, she must of heard something from us. Her teachers loved her and chose her for the outstanding citizenship award for the entire 7th grade. She was thrilled and us too. So far, so good this year too. However, this follows you your whole life. From changing schools, starting a new job, moving to a new neighborhood, it all the same.
ok well kim is right you really cant judge a book by their cover .but its funny when i was a child my dad always looked at peoples shoes when i was about 7 i asked him why do you do that and he said because if they where not polished and neat the person was not .And also the hand shake thing it had to have a good grip it is funny to me now because when someone shakes my hand now if it is whimpy.I dont think they are a strong thinking person. But i must said if i met a person and i get a bad bad vibe like on the dark side it always turns out right must be my esp
A very well known saying... First impression is last impression... May be its true but what Kim said you cant judge a book with the cover is very much accurate... first impression may gives you a good or bad feeling for somone but actually you never know anyone in first attempt.. I think its human nature that everyone wants to impress people when they meet them first time.. so in my opinion everyone shows his/her best justures in their first meetings...
I personally see the hands and nails of people when I met first time... if they are neat and tidy I feel its shows his or her strong nature.. its my thinking :)...
First impression is last impression,
Love at first sight,
I think 90% they are not practical statement.
Gardengirl1209, I always look at cars and can tell things about people. If the inside is dirty and full of things I have always, and I mean always saw theier homes to be the same. In all my cleaning years its been a true assesment. So I can see the shoe thing. First impressions are very real to me. I can tell a fraud a mile away. More so in women then men though.
