There really wasn't ever a formal proposal. No down on one knee for me. It was like it was just common knowledge that we were going to get married. We knew after about one month into dating. He took me ring shopping five months after we started dating and then I told my parents.

Last night when I decided this would be a topic of discussion....my husband and I where talking and laughing. We went to Canada for the weekend, Canada was a hop, skip and a jump from Buffalo, so it was an easy trip to take. Anyhow, he proposed to me, with no ring, when he was not in the room, I was looking all around for the ring, under the bed, in the drawers, etc. My husband was a student so he really had no money....I of course said yes, and then finally said where is the ring? He said Oh well, I have to save up for it, and then go buy it LOL LOL!!!

Hubby did get down on one knee in my parents livingroom and proposed to me on my birthday. Apparently he had already asked my dad if he could marry me and I never knew it until after we were married. He presented me with a receipt in the box because my ring was still at the jewelry store. He hadn't paid it off yet. This is funny, I haven't thought about that for years.

these are such cute stories. to appreciate my story youd have to understand that my husband is irish and has a different sense of humor. also know that we argued from the first day we met( i love to argue ) and still are ,only now i know which topics to avoid. we were on our way to the drive-in to see an elvis movie. he told me he met a new girl the nite before and that her number was in the glove compartment. i tried to open it but it was locked and we argued again. when we got to the drive-in he asked me to go to the snack shop and get him something. i thought" what nerve" but i was kind of glad to get away. when i came back ,the glove compartment was open with the ring box opened on the door of it. of course not expecting anything, i said "whats that?" i was then that he became serios and proposed. to this day i cant tell when he's kidding or not.

Tom and I were in college and of course poor! He worked at the bowling alley and I was a waitress.

On Valentine's night, he came to my apartment from the bowling alley and walked in with his backpack.

I was in a big giant nightshirt with a cow on it, hair in a ponytail, big red socks, and big blue robe. I had been watching an I Love Lucy marathon. I had a couple of presents for him and was a touch miffed that he just breezed in with no gift!!

He opened his up and was all happy. He then told me to close my eyes. When I opened them, he was down on one knee holding the ring box opened and said, "I didn't get you a Valentine's Day card, but if I did, it would say, I love you Kathryn Anne. Will you marry me?" I was in complete and utter shock. I had given up on getting a ring for a while and was stunned. He finally asked me if I was going to say Yes! Of course, I did!

I found out that when he closed the bowling alley on a lot of weekends, he would invite the "regulars" back to bowl for money. Well, they were all usually tipsy so Tom beat their pants off, took all their money and saved it up to by my ring!

After 15 years, we are still going strong. Last night was our anniversary and we had the most lovely evening at a restaurant called Robert's of Charleston. It is a fixed 5 course meal and the chef/singer comes out and sings between some of the courses. He sings opera and broadway tunes. It is a tiny restaurant. There were only 11 tables. He even came and sang a Happy Anniversary song to us! It was wonderful!!! I hope we have 75 more !!!!

Wow interesting stories everyone of them. MY story is nothing fancy. We dated 3 yrs. before he asked. Very nervously I might add. he came into my living room got on his knee and just said "Hey I gotta ask ya something" He hesitated , I said "sure, what?" he replied " Am I marriage material?" then followed with "Then will ya marry me?"The ring we picked together, next day. The first home came before the wedding. We married 2 yrs later. Been great since. I can honestly say arguements are few and far between
