Dark Lady fortune teller

Have you ever been to a fortune teller? Or a psychic medium as they say?  There once was a small town outside the Buffalo area.  It was called Lilly dale.

Ok, it already creeps me out thinking about my experience here one fine weekend.  I was about 26 years old at the time.  A co-worker named Brenda was really into tarot card readings and psychic talk.  I of course was young, naive and was also very much intrigued by it all.  My Mom and sis would get readings all the time and to quote them...they lived by "well the psychic said".....none of it ever panned out.  Getting back to my story.  So Brenda says "Deb we are heading up to lilly dale for the weekend, do you want to go"?  Sure why not, I was in between relationships at the time and really would love to know my future.  So off we  go on a beautiful summer day.  Now if you think the entrance looks creepy you ought to see behind this world.  We get there, we stroll around.  The whole time I am feeling like everyone is staring at me....like they know something about me that I do not...and they are just dying to tell me.  Of course they will charge $100.00 to tell me I was going to meet the man of my dreams.  Well we decided we would go for a bite to eat, then go and find a reading.  Hence we did, I found the cheapest one....SHe predicted I was going to meet the Man of my dreams....which I did, Mike several months later.(and how generic is that).  But that's not the story.......later that night we go to our room.  Well it is a broken down old home with lots and lots of doors....rickety floors, cob webs everywhere, black cats in the window sills....I am serious too.......There is no way in hell I could sleep here.  But I had to, where was I to go?  So I ask Brenda if she would stay in the room with me...she was suppose to bunk up with the other lady we went with.  She obliged.  Let me just say this also, the locks where on the outside of the door...I was like Holy crap, they lock us in here and then what?  I never slept a wink, either did Brenda as I talked all night in fear.  I have mentioned I talk excessively when I am afraid...well that was then and still now.  The next morning, I packed my bags and said let's get the hell out of here.  I never returned. Here is some history on Lily Dale...and not that I would recommend it, but if you are into that stuff you will love it!

Lily Dale is a spiritualist community of the Modern Spiritualist movement located in Chautauqua County, New York, USA. I have personally visited it many times in my life and am always amazed by the spiritual energy's this location imparts upon me and all those that visit. This to me is one of the most haunted hotspots in America to visit next to that of Casadaga , Florida. The Casadaga Spiritualist camp was named after the small Spiritualist Camp community found outside of Lily Dale, New York. http://quezi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/house-in-lily-dale-new-york.jpg
This actually looks like the place we stayed.  Except there is was and old woman rocking on a chair, saying come in my young one, come in.....you get the picture? This picture below was the highlight of the trip, the inspiration stump...yes I remember it well.  I sat there thinking these people are whacked, and I'm scared and I just want to go home!

Oh look there is a ghost......

And that was my psychic story! Tell me, have you ever been to a medium?  Anything strange happen?? No offense to any mediums out there...glad you can see into the future...I will stick to the now for NoW! Linking up for some shadow shot sunday with Hey Harriett!!~ See link http://heyharriet.blogspot.com

Hmm, there are differences in people that are normal, and there are differences in people that are "psychic, clairvoyant, mediums, etc, etc". What I mean is that no two are the same. You may get a reading, it does not necessarily mean that what they say is true or will hold true. Life is a series of choices and if you take a different route than intended, the outcome has the probability to change. So, even though someone tells you something about your future, it may not be accurate or it may change. I have had a reading before, and the lady told me about a house where I would live. Well, it was a house I WAS looking at, but didn't buy. She was on track, just not correct in my final choice. Sorry this was so long!

I think a lot of what a reading is, is generic, they hit on common topics, and know how to work it. Maybe I am wrong. Now I do believe people have strong intuition, as I am one of them. I know when things are going sour before they actually happen...I just feel it....and my husband knows this true of me, and now my son Alex is picking up on it....he asks me all the time, how did you know Mom....it is just strong intuition....just being a good judge of character as well helps in our daily living and future...you know who to stay away from and who will bring you down, etc......and then those who bring good energy in our lives...they are keepers...Thanks Erin!!~

I was engaged to a boy out of high school. First boyfriend/possessive/gave me ultimatium...you get the picture. One night we were at some friends and she asked me to go across the street with her. A new lady had moved in and we were going to take cookies over. We go and start chit chatting and she tells us how she reads palms and if we would like ours read. I love that kind of stuff and was all for it. She read my palm and asked me if I was with a significant someone. I told her yes and and she told me that I would not be with him for long and that I would eventually marry someone who was tall with very dark hair. I, of course, didn't believe it and actually just remembered this about 2 years ago. Well, you have seen my husband and he is definitely tall with dark hair!! I would love to go again, but I am so afraid to hear bad news that I can't do it! I do believe that some people have gifts and it is all very fascinating to me. I think I would be a bit freaked out by the woman rocking on the porch though!

Creepy. Never been to a psychic. I do believe that some people have the gift of discernment or intuition. I have a few stories myself!
On a side note ... I watched your commercial & you look so cute Debbie!

I'm glad you lasted to TELL the story! The old woman rocking on the chair saying what she did creeped me out the most- eu!

No, i'm so glad now that i've never done a psychic reading- it is of course a separate issue that astrology seems to rule my country and my mum has frequented about several thousand already. Do i believe their readings? I know it is a science and every science must have some basis, but... umm.. you get the picture!

I almost went to a reading with a few friends at work, but after I heard their testimonials that some of the things happened in real life, I chicken-out..I rather not know! Oh yes, and the reading was as much as a week worth of groceries for me!

Debbie, think about your x-box post, and what you said to me, what I have said about Roosters, and like you said, general energy exchanges you have with people. You and I are more alike than you think and we could have a major convention on those commonalities! I agree with you, people that have great energy are ones to keep around! You are a ray of sunshine! By the way, this is like the old soul post, so comments may be slim pickings. People fear what they don't know or don't trust in themselves(and sometimes God), again a whole other part of the "convention"!

Ha, I am laughing because my story does sound a bit creepier....I tend to embellish, or should I say, I am a really good story teller. And yes, I am sure some just stay away from the subject...which is fine, I respect that....however, I am keeping my blog true to me, who I am, and my life experiences....this was one!!~ More to come soon:)

That's part of your beauty, your courage and being true to yourself. I really am not stalking you, I swear it! I feel a kinship and for me, the last two weeks has been all about tolerating the snobs at preschool, so I gotta be able to depend on someone being themselves!

That really is a creepy looking place. Locks on the outside of the doors? Was this place a sanitarium at one time?

I have had a tarot reading many years ago but it was so generic it almost made me laugh. Nothing as creepy as what you described.

Hey, thanks for trashing where I grew up and where I am now raising my family. We don't have psychics here. Psychics don't prove the continuity of life. We don't live in rickety houses and if you're scared to be here, it's not us, it's you. We don't predict the future. We live in a great place. Please come back when you have a clue.

Wow that is such an interesting weekend you had! I have never done anything like that and always have had the opinion that maybe some people know things and maybe some don't. I personally have no proof of anything, but that doesn't mean it isn't real! I would love to visit a place like that, I think it would be very interesting. I really didn't think you were trashing the place either, rather offering your personal story. Didn't see where you said that every house in the town was rickety or that all could predict the future. Every town has some rickety houses and a good majority of towns have a psychic or several depending on the size of the town. It's too bad that somebody interpreted what you said as a personal attack on the town he grew up in. I personally thought it would give the town a lot of character that would make me want to visit! Thanks for sharing you story!

I am sorry Bob for you being offended. I was not directing anything toward a specific person, family or home. It was an experience I had as a young woman....almost 20 years ago. This is my blog of stories and experiences, and expressing my creative side. I would never personally attack anyone as you have felt this directed toward you......
