Talking mOre College Smack

Duke University is located in Durham, North Carolina. The university was founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838. The school moved to Durham in 1892. In 1924, tobacco industrialist James Buchanan Duke established The Duke Endowment, prompting the institution to change its name in honor of his deceased father, Washington Duke.
The University is organized into two undergraduate and eight graduate schools. The undergraduate student body comes from all 50 U.S. states and 106 countries. In its 2009 edition, U.S. News & World Report ranked the university's undergraduate program eighth among national universities, while the medical, law, and business schools were ranked among the top 11 in the country.
Duke's research expenditures are among the largest 20 in the U.S. and its athletic program is one of the nation's elite. The Athletic teams compete in the ACC and have won nine national championships, including three by the men's basketball team.
Besides academics, research, and athletics, Duke is also well known for its sizable campus and Gothic architecture, especially Duke Chapel.
Duke started as Brown's Schoolhouse.
In 1924, Washington Duke's son, James B. Duke, established The Duke Endowment with a $40 million trust fund.
Engineering became a separate school in 1939. Duke hosted and competed in the only Rose Bowl ever played outside California. For extended info on Duke please refer here http://ezinearticles.com

This University is off the Hook amazing!~ As we where walking around, I truly was in awww..... over the architecture and the grounds themselves.  I wondered to myself, do these fine young Men and Women truly know what an honor it is to attend such a prestigious school? My husband made the comment, that he would have to think, you always would  respect and honor this school and never want to let it down...not only for yourself, but for the reputation and fact that you had the honor to attend it. Tuition and fees for Duke University cost $37,630 per year. Room and board adds $10,180 to the bill. You will also need to pay for books and personal expenses, and this will cost an estimated $2,940. The total cost per academic year at Duke is $50,750. Holy Cow!
First I will take you on the Garden tour....

Now for some architecture and the Chapel.  I would imagine many of wedding pictures have taken place here.
This is the housing section for the students.
Jack sure looks cool here!~ However, not looking good for the future....
Alex would not let me get any pictures of him...that is typical...in fact he was annoyed at times we where here....he felt we where talking college too soon.  I told him we where just here to see it is all.  Poor kid felt pressure already!~
Linking up to a few great parties as always! Thanks to all you lovely hosts for having me.

I’m happy you stopped by for a visit and enjoyed my Tabletop Tuesday ~ Mantel Vignette. I love how a few simple changes can make a big impact. I enjoy thinking up new ways to use things I already have in my home to give a different look to a room!

Duke is beautiful, and a great school. My grandfather went there. It was not 50K a year then though!! Also nearby, UNC CHapel Hill is a lot less expensive and also a beautiful campus. My ex husband went to law school there and several other of my family members went there. You can't plan that too early either! Looks like you are busy as usual!

Jack is a dude! Ad-o-ra-ble kid, that one!

Alex- relax. Your parents are awesome people, trying their best to just give you the exposure. Love it. You are going to be very successful when you grow up, so don't feel pressurized.

A hug to the gorgeous Mother. thanks for showing me around! :)

I love Duke, it is lovely and such an acedemic powerhouse but sometimes I think that college tutuion has gone out-of control!! My son is attending the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, has the Hope scholarship, and since I am a certified teacher we get 1/4 tutition reduction. His tutution was under 300 dollars for 16 hours and then with the 300 for his books the total was under 1000. After paying 18,000 dollars a year for private school for the last 6 years we decided to go the state universty route. There are many wonderful state schools!! Thanks for visiting my blog, the wedding was so much fun to "do". We all worked together and had a joyful time!

Looks gorgeous. My best friend, who I met in college at Boston University, was devastated she didn't go to Duke...crushed! I'm selfishly glad they rejected her though...

I often take my kids to their future alma mater to take pictures of them there. I'm sure they'll love Harvard! :) The first one still hasn't started kindergarten yet, but I'm sure all three will be quite happy there. On full scholarship of course!

Duke University looks so beautiful! I didn't see it when my kids made the college tours. The farthest south we drove for a college tour was William and Mary in VA.

The sticker shock for private colleges is something else isn't it? We were happy when our kids got some academic scholarships to help with some of the costs.

Tell your sons to dream big! They can do it!

Debbie, what a beautiful campus and beautiful pictures!
Yes that may sound expensive but one of the MD Fellows I work with just shared with me by the time he gets into his own practice this coming October, after 14 years in school, he will be (is) $180,000 in debt from medical school! So one year at Duke doesn't sound too out of line.
Oh and your darling son would fit in well there from what I see in that picture of him, he looks pretty comfy:)
