Some people call me "MAURICE"
Let me explain.........
I mentioned in my last post that we had some friends over and we played a fun little game. This was not like your usual pictionary, scrabble, etc. That would be just too common for Mike and I. Let me give you a little set up first.....
A couple of weeks ago when Mike was off we decided to hit some antique shops just to browse. We really do not need anything, but we love to look. When I found that one piece of art work featured HERE, I also found a beautiful old family black and white photo in the coolest frame. We kept looking at it, really admiring it. However, the thought of a strange family hanging on our wall just kinda creeped us out. We had no history, Like what if this family was killed in a car accident? , or whatever, they had major issues, etc....we just could not get past something not being right. Now don't get me wrong, a lot of our pieces we have little or none history, however there is NOT a face attached to it, if you know what I mean. So we left with our one little purchase of $20.00 and felt happy with that. We could not stop thinking and talking about the picture though. We loved the idea of an old original photo in a frame. So MIKE, in his usual EBAY fashion browsing, found a really neat picture in bubble glass of a cute young man making his communion. He showed it to me, and I immediately loved the background and setting, and the kid was cute too. We both felt a good vibe. Mike won the bid, and within a week, we had a strange boy in our home on the wall. You can see by the date it is old. This person may very well still be alive.
Well we decided he needed a name SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......what we did was have all our party guests, first look at the picture, write a first name, separate paper, Middle initial, separate paper, and last name separate paper. Put it in my chalice cup, (first all the first name), pull from the cup, middle initial, pull from the cup, etc. So we all partaked in the naming of this fine young Man. I found the cup at the Goodwill for a buck.
First NAME: MAURICE
Middle INITIAL: P.
LAST NAME: LOMBARDI
How much fun and laughter we had I can't even tell you. It was hilarious, and everyone had a ball.
We love the name, which by the way Maurice was the one I wrote down. They all asked where did I come up with that one? I have no clue, but I always loved that song from way back when where the verse is" Some people call me MAURICE, cuz I'm a joker, I am smoker, I'm a midnight toker (NONE OF that is true for the record) but you get the gist, well the joker part is!
So please give a warm welcome to Maurice P Lombardi.....applause applause....applause.
Please pardon the glare on these pictures, as I mentioned this is bubble glass, so no matter what time of day there is a reflection.
Here was my Goodwill score, how cool was that, it just was calling our name!
Maurice resides on this wall where the three tins are hanging to your right. I think this constitutes for Kim's Party, from Boring to Better.
I will also be linking to Linda for her Junkin finds Friday party!

Debbie, such a cute story to go with that great find. That is funny how you named it. I bet that was fun! Thanks for linking up.
I can almost hear the laughter..
Maurice is the perfect name-- love that frame too..
I love the picture and he just might be still alive.:) It looks great and I bet the party was so much fun!
Rondell
This post reminded me of a friend I used to hang out with. His name was Maurice. He was 6'7" and had a seriously deep voice and large nose.
Lovely story and love the find!
Maurice would be what, 79- 80 years old? Now, I would love to see the family picture! I just don't know anyone that has pictures of people they don't know in there house.....It is sooo funny! I think I will get one! I'll let you know.
Carol
Well it looks like young MO-reese (haha) has found a new lease on life with a new family, a new home and wonderful new name. What a fun event to honor your newest treasure!
And of course I'm guessing the person who submitted Lombardi WAS thinking of the great Packer coach!?
Great picture-GREAT GAME...If I ever get a cat I'll be calling you (and your friends). Was the Lombardi name connected to someone from the Midwest? I think you know we live in Packer Country and, of course, Vince Lombardi and the Packers are synonymous! We have Lombardi Middle School, a Lombardi Ave, A Lombardi restuarant..should I go on? Just curious! Hugs- Diana
The picture looks awesome. He sure looks like a good boy, doesn't he?
Love that song too and I like the name you picked...Christine
This is so funny. Too bad you didn't have a whole box of pictures to name!! The picture is great though and I bet it looks good in your home!
XO,
Jane
Oh sounds like a fun way to name the photo! You sound like a blast to hang with. Love your GW find as well.
LOL! Oh poor Maurice...just don't call him the gangster of love!
Maurice is vintage goodness. I had a nurse friend who had an entire wall of "found" ancestors.
What a fun game. But, you know that Maurice's granddaughter probably reads your blog. BTW, I love the new wallpaper design on your background.
Too funny! Love the photo, though! Your blog looks lovely and great new header, too!
How fun Debbie and a great photo also...such a deal...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
I wanna play this game the next time I have guests and we're sitting around having drinks. (no tokes...) I have some interesting old photos that I bought at antique stores but have yet to hang them. your Maurice Lombardi seems to have come from a bit of a mixed marriage... LOL
Hi Debbie! Oh, how fun you are! Wish we could meet someday! :) Little Maurice is darling and wonderful your hubby rescued him! That sounds like a cute way to name him and the name fits him perfectly! :)

questo quadro "vintage" di una persona reale del passato mi piace molto... anch'io quando compero oggetti usati cerco di sapere quale sia stata la loro storia.

That's hysterical! I love that you made a game out of it. And yes, no matter what, that photo can't possibly have anything eerie attached to it.
OMG...I am totally creeped out and intrigued by pictures like this ever since I saw the movie "The Others" with Nicole Kidman. It is a must see movie.
"Maurice" suits him well... :)
Take care,
Lisa

Somedays I think I may trade mine in,lol.

Missed reading your stories Deb! Im tryin to work on Holiday line and get house ready for Thanksgiving next week. So hard when your waiting for one holiday to end so you can tear apart your house and decorate for the next one! Glad all is well with you and your family.
what a fun and entertaining story Debbie. I loved reading this post. I once saw an entire photo album of a family in a thrift shot here in down town Los Angeles. The photos were really old and I had an impulse to buy it. I was determined that I would find the family and give it to them....but then the same thoughts you had, I had too. What if it was a family with a lot of problems...incarcerations, drugs, prostitution....and I freaked out and put the album back. I could not stop thinking about the pictures and the people in them and a few days later I went back to buy it but it wasn't there anymore. I felt horrible, almost as if a close relative had passed. I felt like only I could take care of the album like no one else could.
Love your picture, and so glad you are displaying it in your beautiful home.
I love it Debbie! What a great story!
A new header!! I really like it. So, glad you have turned into a type B (That is opposed to a type A) blogger, Kid you were wearing me out!
Carol
I can only imagine how much fun you had and what a perfect name....Maurice P Lombardi....it even sounds good too!!
Debbie,
This is hilarious! What a wonderful sense of humor you have. Love the picture and that you're posting again. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Peggy
You could have done the Captain Underpants name. There is a formula with the Captain Underpants books to follow to get your name and it seems my real name is Falafel Monkeybuns! The hubby calls me that all the time! I love old pictures, but I always feel bad. What if some family is looking for the long lost picture of Great Grandma? I one time saw a whole album in an antique store and my heart just went out to some family that I don't even know because they don't have that stinking book! I do love old pictures though and have been trying to collect them from our family. I started a gallery wall. I will have to post about it sometime.
Maurice is a handsome gent and looks great in your home I bet!
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
GREAT!!! I went away thinking you were giving up blogging. SOOOOOOOOO glad you are here!!! Yeh!! Hooray!!
Now to the post. Love the idea of the old photo and the special way you gave him an identity. Next party, give him history. LOL.
I am home after three weeks across the pond. Drop by to visit. After Thanksgiving I will post some of the trip. Hugs, Ginger So glad you were here!!
Sounds like fun! Happy Thanksgiving!
xoxo
Rachel
That's so funny! That's a great picture though, and I love the name you gave him!!
PS..Thanks for the health and spice advice. I just saw that comment!! I'm sure to go hunt it down. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving may you and your family be blessed!!
I have to tell you....you gotta love Maurice!! I also have to tell how much I adore your foyer!!
