Drum shade for ceiling fan

Drum shade on a ceiling fan! Whomever came up with idea  first, I think you are pretty smart.  I have seen it many times, and thought I really need to try that.  For one, it is less costly than replacing the ceiling fan and for two, I believe our ceilings fan serve a purpose.
2-17-ceiling-fan-shade.jpg

We need to circulate that air on occasion.

I started with a simple Better homes and gardens lampshade purchased at Walmart for around $10.00.  I liked the color, texture and trim.  I, however knew it had to be the Debbiedoodized with some stenciling and embellishments.

Easy to stencil on fabric...told you that time and time again, really little room for error on fabric.

I used picture wire hanger to add to the center of the lampshade, and then lightly hung it on the screws of the fan where the lights shades were.

I whipped this out pretty fast, so I do have to tweak it some to center it. But no big deal, when I get out the ladder again, I will adjust that.

In each center of the flower I added a different color button to compliment with the room.

HA, in this picture you can really see how off center I am...I am going down now to fix that:)

What a great impact this made!

You may recall I just showed you Alex's room, and used an existing drum shade from his floor lamp.
I used the same method..

Wow - that is definitely a look I haven't seen before. Do you get enough light from that? Or is more just for decoration?

I think it looks great and its nice to have an option to ceiling fans when you really can't afford to change the light fixture portion. I like ceiling fans, too, Debbie. We put ours on in the bedroom at night all year long. "Debbiedoodized" ~ will that come up in Spellcheck? : )

I was wondering how you did that! LOL The ceiling fan in the kitchen and the room off the kitchen need a complete makeover, I mean taken down and the brass painted with nickel! The lights are three bulbs, just wondering if yours was like that or did it have just one single bulb?
Love the lampshade Deb, how neat!

I love this idea! We have a 2 story home with no central air, so ceiling fans are a must in the upstairs bedrooms. I'm glad there's something I can do to pretty them up a bit.

What a wonderful idea! I really love the way yours turned out. I also love the inspiration you give for turning a simple Walmart shade into something really stylish.

I also wanted to tell you that I love the color your shouted out in your previous post. I'm besotted with a similar shade lately and am putting it in my powder room in accents. What a happy difference it made over the old greens in there.
