Choice of color, and tutorial on painting furniture

First things first.  Clean the crud!
Remember it was someone else's crud, for who knows how long.
I usually use a cleaner with some antibacterial in it.
I then removed the drawers and did the same scrubbed.
Removed and cleaned hardware.
Sand, sand, sand, clean,clean, clean
Prime, Prime, Prime
KILZ is what I used.

Let that dry, a couple of hours.
Then I took my spray paint of choice...
For the drawers I used:
for the rest of the piece including the hardware I used

Let it dry for a couple of  hours.
I then took my craft paint

and a paper towel and lightly rubbed the edges and the top, and wiped to get a streakish look, I used the worn penny color.
Took my stencil and stenciled away....

You do NOT want to put the tape on too hard, just lightly...you may risk removing some paint..in my case I did not have a problem. A lot of you gals have indicated you have NEVER stenciled before.  I would suggest a few practice runs on perhaps some cardboard.  The key is not to glob too much paint on the sponge or brush applicator.
I then printed up the graphic of my choice which was butterflies from the GRAPHICS FAIRY
I cut them and tea bagged them.

Which basically all that is is boiling some tea bags, throwing my butterflies in the water for a minute, and gently removing them to dry on a cookie sheet.
I then took my My Mod podge and placed them where I wanted to and Mod podged away.
Now if I wanted to, and I did NOT, I could use a poly finish on top to protect the piece.
I do no anticipate this piece getting beat up and a lot of wear and tear so I skipped it.

Here is my half price shelf before....looked really beat up, and had no clue where I was going to put it or what I was going to do to it...but for $2.50 I thought I would come up with something.....notice the gallon of paint in the back ground...that is for all my interior doors ...I bought that two months ago....with good intentions....have not even thought about that project...that is not a fun one! And I will have nothing to show for it, but crisp white doors....boring! now onto the fun....you see the sticker price...half off that....
I really love this color
Loves it!
Now we have all seen these flowers at one time or another....for 12 cents.....again I thought I could come up with something........
You all recall this color....still going strong!

WhiMsy in the Garden.... and All OUr Hard work

This was last years rustic garden As you can see we live in a heavily wooded area.  It is constant work and forever a mess.  There is nothing pristine and clean about this area.  We do love it though and enjoy sitting out by the fire, doing smore's and just kicking back. This year I decided to bring a little more color and fun to the gardens and front of our home....so kick back and enjoy your outdoor tour and all the changes I made this year......
My husband made this bench for me a few years back. I painted my chairs this fun whimsy blue

This blue really is pretty, and I went a little hay wire as you can see coming up next

I also painted these chairs, they where Oak, and I painted and distressed them black

I recently made this cute whimsical wreath too, I actually saw one similar made here in blog land, I apologize for forgetting who, but if she sees it please let me know, so I may add her link I like to give credit where credit is due

My new Birthday present from my husband, I love it, he is so good!~ All my colors!

You pretty much know from the outside, how I decorate, as I bring the same theme and colors indoors

My Japanese Maple is just gorgeous this year.  We planted it three years ago, and it was a twig tree, It really likes where it is

This arbor my husband gave me last year for my Birthday,  I planted some Yellow Jasmine vine and it is really taking off.  I will get a better shot later on in the Season.
I found these guys at an antique store a couple of years ago....all three for 5.00, then I found the mushroom to go with them.
If you ever need a cold beer out by the fire, here is an odd opener...hey it works it's whimsy and has four eyes

This arbor is planted behind the blue chairs near the outdoor fireplace.  I am not sure of the name of the vine, but right now it has pretty yellow flowers on it, this is also near my kitchen window so when I look out I can see it

I love my copper Torches too, it looks cool at night when we light them

Oh look more blue what a surprise

This bench was red and became faded so I just painted in black last year, I am thinking maybe yellow this year...what do you think?

Hope you enjoyed your outdoor transformation tour as much as I did presenting it to you........
Great shadow shot here, boy am I tired!~
