Chalk paint, terra cotta pots, MUMS the word!

When does my obsession ever end?
Annie Sloan chalk paint has been one of mine for a while now.
Do you ever feel like that  about something you love?
 I always feel like
I will look back and say to myself what was I thinking?
because I have so many times before.
(bought my first MUM of the season)

I sure hope with all these latest projects I have been doing,  that  will NOT be the case.  I have been very happy with their out come!
So......today, I was thinking more about our backyard retreat and all the color I want to add.
I have a can of Annie Sloan Provence  chalk paint that I have been dying to dig into.

Remember I mentioned I want a Spanish flair out on our new area.  I want to totally bring the inside out.
So I decided to make my own pot instead of paying 50.00 for something fancy with flair.

It really was so simple to paint the terra cotta.
The Annie sloan chalk paint went on like butter.
Dried fast as usual.  I have so many pretty stencils on hand I thought I would stencil a design on the pot as well.

I was achieving a weathered old look...
so I sanded the heck out of it.
Gosh,
the sanding is the toughest part of these jobs!
I sweat like a dickens!

I am so very happy with the after...it turned out better than I anticipated.
You just never know when you try something new, it was a 50/50..
The best part of it, this pot was less that 10.00.

In fact from what I am told about Annie's paint, that  using it for outdoor projects is just as wonderful.  It will take on a more weathered effect over time.

This is the stencil and paint I used..

Check out hobby lobby. They have a large selection to choose from.  I can't wait to go check out their new stencils for Fall.  Hopefully they will have some.
Thanks for stopping over!

Decorating with Burlap, painting with Chalk paint, and changing a vignette!

Yes all in a day's work! Decorating with burlap,
I painted with Chalk paint and of course one thing lead to another, had to change a vignette!

It all started with this old mini trunk we had.
Both Kim and Martina inspired me on this one!
I felt the need to lighten and brighten it.  I have plenty of burlap left, and do NOT want to waste it.

This is one of my new chalk paint colors...Arles is the color, and it is a real pretty yellow shade.

I really roughed  it up a bit.

I really like the touch of texture the burlap adds to the box.
I mod podged it on..
FUN!

Do you remember my Moss ball, that my friend made for me?
HERE you can read about it
Well I have had it since April, and it is still alive and well.

I love my old books that I have found mostly at Goodwill and thrift stores...my seltzer bottle in which my FIL gave to us.

Of course while I was in the painting mode, I had to step outside...
this is just a sneak peek.

Boys start back to school tomorrow (insert sad/happy face ______)
I am sad, yet happy and excited for them.
It has been a fabulous summer, it went by way tooooo fast though!~

Summer color changes!

As I am looking around the house as to what to freshen up for Summer next....
I have all this chalk paint left over and thought what can I paint that Mike would not  mind? He would mind any of the family room woods, Guys have a thing for wood??
I thought I would brighten some accessories  up in our Family room.
Sometimes, the simplest things can lighten and brighten a room.
I have some chalk paint left over, and there is no way I am wasting a drop of that stuff.
Here is the before look:
Great colors for Fall and Winter time. Now onto summer....

Cream color Annie Sloan Chalk paint
 this is the before

This piece was heavy and very dark, not the easiest piece to hand paint.

And this was a recent score from Pier I...
I quickly got tired of all these colors.

Quick and easy fix for sure!

Thrift store score!

Today was a good day of thrifting for me.  You know why, because I did not even plan it.
Went to lunch with  friend and then I decided to go to our local thrift store that supports the humane society. Love that place!
So I spied this little wood stool, and it was the perfect size.
You see we have been fighting over the computer lately in our home.  Not exactly fighting, because poor Mike has not much say, I just kinda take it over.
Finally we broke down and bought a new home computer and Mike can have the laptop.
(this is just a cute little card Mike gave me some time back, I just smile every day I look at it!)

SO I thought I would make a little space just for Mike to putz on the computer when he wants to download his music.  I wanted a simple stool, low enough, and now I have to find a little table for him.
The before, rustic looking and all in great shape

Mike truly is No. 1 so I had to let him know it!

I painted it with some left over Duck eggs blue CHALK paint.

More fresh flowers, they look lovely in our romantic bedroom

I lightly distressed it to have the original color show through.  Now all I need to do is find Mike a cool little table for the laptop and he is good to go! Simple guy for sure!

Guest room suite with a garden view

So it all began with chalk paint.
Thanks Miss Mustard Seed, you have created a chalkmonster out of me.
I know you have all been waiting patiently for my room reveal...so here it goes.
I am sure some of the snippets were not even making sense color wise.
Like where does orange come into play here?
So today the sun was shining! I could take some pictures finally. Sorry I am weird like that..I refuse to take pictures on a crappy day.
Blue has always been my favorite color, and I have no problem mixing different variations of blue together..
it works for me.
I do believe every room in your house should reflect
your personality.
This Mexican pottery light was in our first Florida home hanging over our kitchen table. I still adore it.
I hope when our guests come they feel the fun and energy we have to share.
I think they do, they keep coming back!
Color scheme, blues, lime green, yellow, orange, dash a white, wall  color by Restoration hardware, cappuccino. Lamp bought at World Market several years ago.
Wishing I had no glare on the pictures..I may remove the glass...
View out the window
I will be showing you the chair makeover soon, third one since I have had it.
Better shot of treatment on my chalk painted furniture.
Here is where the orange ties in, I bought this piece for the TV at World Market last year marked down on clearance.
I used two different stencil paint pens for this flower.
I had some left over fabric from the chair and thought it would look cute tied to the blue pillow...
And there you have it.
This room redo was all done on a small budget.
So the room makeover over was approximately $250.00

Resources I used:
Hobby Lobby
(stencil, fabric)
Chalk paint
TJ Maxx
(Cynthia Rowley collection)
Walmart
(Better Homes and gardens collections, sheets and picture frames)
You don't even have to waste your gas to go shopping, shop on line it's cheaper these days
some places even offer free shipping.
Wait just one minute...here is the very BEFORE bedroom

It was fun, and I still love the coverlet...I will use this one in the Fall and Winter months.
I will be linking to some fun parties later on.
Have to run out this evening for a school band meeting.
My son is leaving for a four day band event in Orlando.
I am so jealous!

Stenciling burlap part II, NEWBIE party going strong.

Seeing I showed you yesterday my stenciled art work on burlap, I thought I  would show you the ROLL I am on now.
Have you figured out by now, I get fixated on one project and keep it going? Yeah well, I do!
I knew after viewing this picture this old frame which was my husbands Aunt's needed a lil somethin' somethin', this frame has been sitting in a closet doing nadda!
So today I thought of it.
See here the empty blah blah frame

Stenciling on burlap is a real cinch. I used regular craft paint and some small artist brushes and just lightly dabbed my stencil. I cut the burlap of course to fit the opening of the frame and then hot glued it to the back.

I thought it would be nice to welcome my guests.
And here you have once again, a little color, texture and dimension to a plain ole frame.
Thanks so much for popping over.
My newbie party is still going on

Our guest room is ready for the full reveal, however the weather is not cooperating, and I refuse to take pictures of it on a cold dreary wet day.
Hopefully the
sun will come out tomorrow! because you can bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow may be the reveal...
so come back soon. Oh wait a minute..I do have one more thing to share in here project wise..so maybe that will be tomorrow and NOT the entire room...
psyched you out
I just received some more chalk paint. I have added the link to my side bar..
I highly recommend you trying it out.
