InFluences~~

Throughout our entire lives, we all have had someone, somewhere have an influence on us. Some good, some not so good.  Fortunately, at this time I do feel my boys are not easily influenced in a negative way, they are making wise choices thus far and seem to be influenced in positive ways. I will not kid myself though, as I am certain to hit some major bumps in the road ahead!  One thing I tell them all the time is, every Parent has their own way of handling situations or what they allow and do not allow....RuleS are not always the same for everyone! I think sometimes Jack would like to teach other Parents the do's and don't according to our house LOL! He does have enough tact not to though!  So whether it be something your ParEnt taught you, a TeAcher, a FrienD,etc. etc. what did you learN?  Is it SomethIng that always stuck with You? I would LovE to hear the positive influences,  MiND SHaring?.............

This is about a positive influence someone else has had on my daughter. My youngest daughter LOVES the Jonas Brothers. If you have a teen or pre-teen daughter you know who they are. The Jonas Brothers have gotten a lot of flack & have been mocked for wearing purity rings and for what that represents. Well, we have always taught our daughters the benefits of those beliefs, as well.
Anyway, last year there was a boy who wanted to date my daughter, both he & my daughter were only 15. The boy asked her if they could go out & she pulled him aside & told him that 1. she couldn't date until she was 16 (our rule) and 2. that she wasn't the type of girl who fooled around and that she wore a purity ring and what that meant. When I heard her tell this story I was shocked that she would be so bold as to say this so adamantly to a boy who only wanted to go out with her! I didn't even know that the ring she wore was her purity ring. She had purchased the ring & wore it as a special symbol all on her own because her favorite band had the same values.
Back to the boy's response ... he just said "I'll wait". My daughter & that boy are currently dating ... which is where the difficult part of living up to her beliefs comes in.

Well, my dad and grandfather have always taught me that life is short so make the best of it in every way possible. My grandpa is now 90 and I cherish every moment with him. Now I am not very old and have an illness that has no cure. I cherish every moment- just like my dad and grandpa said. I try not to think about tomorrow, but what I have today- thanks for the most important lesson in life dad and grandpa. They both are my greatest influence.

I don't think I could narrow it down to one..There is definitely something to be learned from good and bad influences. If we don't have some bad influence, then how do we learn from experience? If you don't make some bad choices, you can't make good decisions..On the other hand, I listen to others, their history and experience and see what they are telling me. Examples: our horse when I was growing up was a good mother to me. She always listened and loved me unconditionally. Same for my grandma for loving me unconditionally. My parents had a crappy marriage until a few years ago, so when my dad told me marriage is hard work, work hard at it, I figured that he knew what he was talking about. When I was at my cousin's funeral(a little under a year after his brother's death) and my aunt(their mom) told me to love my kids and to take care of them the best I could, I figured that since she drug them into that lifestyle, she knew what she was talking about. There is something to be learned positively from everyone, we just need to pay attention and stop being so caught up in ourselves
