I do not let any grass grow under my feet as the saying goes! I had it pretty much in my mind I was going to do it, I was excited in fact! However, my biggest opinion needed was every step or every other. So this is how the story goes.
Pretty drab really when you look at it.
I saw this pretty stencil while at Hobby Lobby, and that is when it hit me.
Mike happened to be with me, I KNOW poor guy at Hobby Lobby on his day off. And I asked him his thoughts. He was not happy to be honest at FIRST
But like we said, it's only paint.
I have to be honest, I really don't like it
I LOVE IT!
I even started to decorate for Valentines day, just a tad here and there so far.
This shield is on the left going up the stairs
And we have this pretty vintage light in the area as well.
Someone mentioned it being a tedious job. NOT at all. It took me about an hour hour and half at most. Really simple, cheap, and I think it adds a lot to dreary area of the house.
I mixed these two colors. First I did the penny color, and then lightly rolled the black for a shading appearance. These little rollers are AWESOME to use when stenciling.
FUNNY, Jack came home from school today and he said "WOW Mom I love the stairs, you are really getting good at painting like an artist" I said Thank you son. Does he really need to know the truth??
Now the problem is, I want to stencil everything in site!
Thank you all for your opinions, that was great!

OH WOW, I LOVE THIS!I CAN'T BELIEVE IT LOOKS SO GREAT AND FOR SO LITTLE MONEY!
It turned out great!
I bet you'll keep walking by your stairs just to see how great they look!!!
I laughed(hard and out loud) when you said that you now wanted to stencil everything!!! I think this looks spectacular and I love that shield!!! Great job!
Perfect. Three is Perfect. Put the brush away, step back and admire.
Looks great, Deb. Don't let them knock those candles over!
This is a blast from the past, Debbie. I remember the days when stencils were SO in! You are probably a little young but I had every wall in my house stenciled in some decorative pattern. And went and stenciled my friend's baby nursery with little brown bears with red curly ribbons between them to match her red gingham baby bedding. I'm a huge fleur de lis lover so I most definitely LOVE it!
It looks beautiful Debbie! Love that you just did every other step instead of all of the risers.
I love it! You did it right too, if you had done every step it would have felt way too busy...That's really awesome...Did you give it a srpray of clear? Don't want to lose the pretty design any to quick! You need your own store...you and your Mom would be awesome together! Lots of creative flow between you two!
Oh what a great idea. We are going to be redoing our stairs sometime this year, and I think I may have to do just this. The stairs are going to look pretty much identical to yours once we finish, love it!
The stencil looks great. Nice update to the stairs.
Looks great - nice job!
Have a great weekend.
I wish we had a hobby lobby out here, I love that and would love to have it...I better check online
It looks wonderful Debbie, I like the ever other step too! Your son is so cute for saying that and no he doesn't have to know!
Don't burn your feet walking up the steps! I think it looks awesome! Really cute.
Awsome job! I love fleur di lis designs. Did I spell that right?
Blessings~
Gwenny
It turned out great! I love the two toned effect too. Cannot see what you use this on next. That is a great stencil!
Thank you girls for coming back and checking it out. I appreciate your kindness and really am loving this project for now.

Looking good, Debbers! I like the every-other step plan! Great job...Now...if I sent you MyHero do you think you could stencil a bit of hair on top of his head? Just asking...xxoo Diana

Gail
I think the stencils add just the right touch to your stairs. They look great!!
Jane
I love this Debbie! It really came out beautifully. And I do like the every other riser choice. I had to laugh at Terri's comment - I think I used that same stencil in my daughter's nursery :) Kat
Those stairs look great and I love the shield. I may do something like that for the wall by my stairs. I wish I could do the stairs but I have carpet.

It is beautiful! I like it with every other step too, and I didn't think I would. Really nice job!!
Great job - it looks wonderful. Love the shield too.
Looks darling Debbie~ it turned out beautiful! :)
The stencils added "Just the Right Touch"!!! Of course, Jack does not need to know the truth....of course his mom is super talented we all know that. We all need alittle help ever once in a while. Changed the whole look of your staircase. Sending you an airplane ticket to come and paint my staircase! Thanks for sharing!
I love it! What a great, and easy, way to spruce up a dull area! I love the little candles as well!
A-MA-ZING!!! Debbie those stairs look absolutely wonderful and you are definitely setting the bar high in 2011! I just love how it all turned and love that you linked it up to the party this week!
Vanessa
It turned out great Debbie. So glad you went with every other step. I think that was just enough. Must make you smile every time you go upstairs!
Deb you are a busy lady this week. The added touches just make the house more beautiful. I love the long religious plaque (right up my alley)
Such a great transformation. And the candles are a great idea!

Your stairs turned out fabulous! I like the every other stair :D
Oh Debbie I love the stenciling. I actually looked at stencils at Hobby Lobby last week-end, but it is just something that I have never been good at! Gonna try again now that I have seen yours.
The fact that you alternated the stairs made it look all the better! Not overly busy- just right. It looks really great, Debbie. :-)
Just look what I've been missing while I've been cleaning and organizing and killin' myself for a week and a half. LOL I gotta get back in gear and start some projects! ~ Sue
It looks fantastic!!!!! I was wanting to do a French theme in my guest bathroom and you have inspired me to to do a fleur-de-lis pattern as a mock chair rail now!!!
Thank you so much for the inspiration!!

i couldn't remember if i already commented on this, but i didn't see my name. i love this makeover, it is just so you! great job!
LOVE IT!!! I had the same problem in our previous house~ I stenciled a border in the bathroom and some ivy in the bedroom and then the kitchen, I couldn't stop with the stenciling!
This turned out wonderfully, Debbie...reminds me of a Tuscan villa...
Your stairs look fantastic! Why not enjoy every time we run up them? Fabulous look. :)
Hi Debbie!
The stairs turned out wonderful! I love it and I think going every other step was perfect!
Absolutely gorgeous Debbie, I really like the every other step idea. It looks like art :) I know what you mean about stenciling, it can get addicting.
I don't like it either! I LOVE it! Stencil is the way to go. After removing the awful wall paper that was in this house when we moved in I said I would never use wallpaper. I stenciled my living room just in the corners and around some portraits in the same shades you used. I have also stenciled my kitchen and then free handed accents so it looked less like a stencil. Debbie,... it looks fabulous!
Your stairs are awesome!!
That encourages me to get started on my steps I have wanted to paint them white all winter and just never gotten started.
Good job
Janice
Bello bello bello !!!
Dovrei ristrutturare anche io la mia casa.... puoi venire ad aiutarmi ?
Baci !
Oh those stairs are now gorgeous. Now you've started me thinking. What should I stencil with that pattern.Love it.
Oh your stairs look wonderful! Great idea & great job too.
Fabulous! You painted just the right amount of stencils without being too many.
Hi Debbie~ just stopping back by to say thanks for sharing this at Feathered Nest Friday! :)
I too am inspired! Thanks for showing the products you used. I have an interior stairway and you have got me now wondering what can be done!
WOW, Love it!! Looks so beautiful. I might have to try that one on my stairs. We live in a split entry and the stairs are the first thing you see. I already have the stencil. I would just need the paint. My husband probably wouldn't like it if I just showed him a pic of it, but if I happened to just paint it one day....
I love your blog, it inspires me to paint my junk!
this looks so great, now I wish that I had a set of stairs to dress up! I hope that you will link this to my Show and Share Sunday linky party. http://craftygeordi.blogspot.com/2011/01/show-and-share-sunday.html
This came out so great!! I love them! I love your Valentines deco on the stairs!! Beautiful!! I want to paint my stairs so bad and Hubby keeps bugging me to do it. Maybe one of these nights when everyones sleeping!!
They look fabulous Debbie! Great choice in going with every other step.
~ Tracy
Love it. Hope the next time I get to Cincinnati I can find that stencil. GD#2 wants a Paris bedroom with fuscia walls and black stencil around the top. Whew
Thanks for sharing.

Looks fab girl :)!
Oh, Debbie!!!!! I love it!!!!!
I thought I was the only person left in this world that love stenciling. LOL A couple of months ago, I did a a big stencil project in my dinning room. I will share share that soon on my blog.
We are getting ready to take down the carpet on our stairwell, so you just gave me all the inspiration I needed. Your stairs look so awesome!
