1980's microwave cart score at GOODWILL and Newbie party started.
At least that is what I think this is, or was.
I found it during my last trip to Goodwill.
It was only $ 5.00. Now what I was going to do with it?
I had no clue.
I had no clue.
That is usually the way my projects start out. CLUELESS!
This year Jack wanted a small laptop for his birthday instead of a party. Seeing we are all on the computer at one time or another, I thought it was a good idea. Saves me from the heartache of brothers fighting over computer time.
Now I needed a safe keeping for it.
Pretty ugly.
I cleaned it up real good with my disinfectant and krud cutter.
Now that I am on the very last drop of my chalk paint, duck egg blue.
I thought this is a great color for Jack's room.
This was the first time I have used the dark wax. NOT a fan of it at all. To me it makes it look dirty.
But this was perfect for Jack's room, because it usually is a dirty mess.
I love this mini globe I scored for him at our Local humane society thrift store.
I try to instill in Jack the importance of education, reading writing, etc.
He is my tough one when it comes to academics.
He would rather be fishing...
No joke, he told me the other day he wants to be a professional fisherman. He said "MOM I can make
25,000 off of one fish"
OK Jack "Dream Big"....
No worries for you kiddo, your college is paid for, you can actually go to a University if you want...
"Don't worry Mom", you can always find me at the dock of the bay...
And there is the tale of my 1980's microwave cart.
It holds Jack's college certificate, laptop and some special trinkets that were my Gramps!

That piece certainly looks like more that $5 after you got through with it! The finish is perfect for Jack's room! You are the bargain and paint queen for sure!

A really neat idea Deb! I don't know how many I've seen like yours at GW, just never knew what to do with them! Turned out great for Jack's room!
Someone told me they mix a tablespoon of the dark wax with regular minwax and works great, not so dark. Love the little table. Great $5.00 fix up.

You already know I love the duck egg blue, but I also love the dark wax. Gives it an more weathered with time look. Great score for $5.
Awesome job with the cart!! And good for Jack! He has a dream! My son thinks he will be in the NBA. Why not? That is what being 12 is all about, right?

Terrific transformation! Love the paint job and the saying. I know a guy who does sport fishing tours who makes a great living. He spends the winters in FL and the summers up in the 1000 islands running fishing charters. Dream Big indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Cool beans- who would know it was a nasty ol' microwave cart in its previous life? What does Jack think of it? I did my first chalk paint project this weekend. I think I am a drop-out! Should I sand before or after waxing? I've seen 2 tutorials- one sanding before and one sanding after waxing. I didn't get the look everyone else seems to get. aagghh... Maybe I should stick to styling and decorating and leave painting to the talented people! LOL
That turned out so fun, Debbie...love the sentiment...and Jack may be that professional fisherman one day!

I was wondering how I would feel about the dark wax on my little project, done last week. I went ahead and posted it, although it still has some work to be done. I want to darken the sanded edges, but wondered how the dark wax would do against the white finish. I am afraid it might make the cabinet appear dirty, rather than "aged".
That looks amazing Debbie! I just got my Annie Sloan paint on Friday and can't wait to get started on all my furniture pieces. I have a whole room to do...wish me luck!

Great job on the make over. As for the dark wax, it's supposed to make it look old and worn. It's great for showing details on things, if that's the look you're going for. I love it for some things, but not on other things. ;)

I'd like to say that this cart probably dates back to the 70's ~ I had one that looks like it. :-) It was a dark finish and let me tell you, the microwave was terribly expensive and weighed a ton! Just a bit of info for you ~ LOL
You did a super job on it and the color looks great in Jack's room. I'm with him re: the fishing. So much more fun than academics. :-) Kids just don't realize the importance of an education...at least not this early in his life.

WoW! Can't BELIEVE it's the same cart!! Amazing!! I love it!! Yes, the wax does make things look rugged; I use the clear first and then just ad a little of the dark in spots and try to work it in, but it does make it look old. I love it esp. for kids' furniture. My kids could never have white furniture: what a mess it would be!! :S
Hey Debbie! I just wanted to share something about the dark wax. I was not fond of it at first either...then I read that you are suppose to put a coat of clear wax on first...don't know if you did this or not, but once I tried that, I liked the dark much better. It was much easier to spread and worked more like a glaze. I love the cart transformation!!! Happy painting!!!
