1980's microwave cart score at GOODWILL and Newbie party started.
I had no clue.
This was the first time I have used the dark wax. NOT a fan of it at all. To me it makes it look dirty.
I love this mini globe I scored for him at our Local humane society thrift store.
I try to instill in Jack the importance of education, reading writing, etc.
No joke, he told me the other day he wants to be a professional fisherman. He said "MOM I can make
25,000 off of one fish"
OK Jack "Dream Big"....
No worries for you kiddo, your college is paid for, you can actually go to a University if you want...
And there is the tale of my 1980's microwave cart.
Now let'sparty!~

That piece certainly looks like more that $5 after you got through with it! The finish is perfect for Jack's room! You are the bargain and paint queen for sure!
wow, thats such a great idea and it turned out great,, does he like it?I took one of those to the dump,, set it to the side in case someone wanted it.I wonder if it turned into something like this,, great job!!
Love it, great job! XO ~LIZ
I love what you did with the cart! Now, I'll be looking out for this type of thing as my little boy needs some furniture in his room..
It looks great, love your son's room. And thanks for the info on the paint:-)
I know what you mean about the dark wax! Great transformation though!
A really neat idea Deb! I don't know how many I've seen like yours at GW, just never knew what to do with them! Turned out great for Jack's room!
Someone told me they mix a tablespoon of the dark wax with regular minwax and works great, not so dark. Love the little table. Great $5.00 fix up.
I can't believe that's the same piece!! Love it...and your son is adorable. So handsome!
It looks fabulous!
i love the idea and you can roll it around how good is that it looks great :)hey jack could be a caption of a ship you never know:)
You already know I love the duck egg blue, but I also love the dark wax. Gives it an more weathered with time look. Great score for $5.
Awesome job with the cart!! And good for Jack! He has a dream! My son thinks he will be in the NBA. Why not? That is what being 12 is all about, right?
And thank you Debbie for everything you have done for me!! You are an awesome person and I am so lucky to have found you!!
xxDaniella
Wow the transformation is amazing. Very nice job.
What an awesome transformation, you never seem to surprise me Debbie!! Love it and I bet Jack does too! Thanks for hosting my friend! I think this might be the last time I can join :( next week marks 6months of blogging for me! I can't thank you enough for all the help and publicity your newbie party gave me!! You Rock Debbie! Martina xo
Hahahaha! I still have that old microwave cart from the 80's sitting here! :O I knew I could revive it! Just wasn't sure what to do with it. Good thing I didn't throw it away! Thanks the inspiration!
-Lynn
I see those carts all over, but I didn't think you could paint them...well I was wrong! Awesome!
Your son is funny~If he decides NOT to go to college, tell him to send the money down here cuz I picked up an extra teenager and we could use help with college ~Giggle~
Oh still working on the button...UGH (well gave up for awhile)
~~Wendy
Very clever, Debbie! You have great vision for seeing beyond what a piece of furniture was originally designed for, and turning into something functional and fabulous!
The cart is unrecognizable! You did a fab job, hope your handsome son enjoys it.
Hugs,
Patti
An absolute trash to treasure. I love it Debbie.
Terrific transformation! Love the paint job and the saying. I know a guy who does sport fishing tours who makes a great living. He spends the winters in FL and the summers up in the 1000 islands running fishing charters. Dream Big indeed. Thanks for sharing.
I love this fabulous trash to treasure transformation. I'm sure Jack is loving it. He sure looks like a happy fisherman!
That is truly a trash turned treasure project. I see those old microwave carts all the time and I have never given them a second look. It looks fabulous now!
Love the cart, Debbie. Perfect for the little fisherman!
Looking great! I almost don't believe that cart started out as "cheesy" as it did, you'd never know it now though. Gotta love the fisherman's mentality...it's precious!
I love your son's room! It looks fantastic and that cart serves such a great purpose.
Great story about your sweet son Jack. I love the picture of him with the large fish. lol
I'm impressed on how you revamped the cart. DREAM BIG!
It's so perfect with the blue chalk paint and dark wax!
Dee
Dearest Debbie,
That was a great find and it turned out perfect for Jack's room! Congrats on doing such a job.
I'm all with you for turning the word verification off on a blog...
By the way, did you read my previous blog about how you can place 5 LinkWithin Related Posts with Thumbnails on your blog? http://bit.ly/nGfu9F
Would be perfect for your high traffic blog! Mine generates about 50-70 different posts being read daily.
Have a great week ahead and lots of love,
Mariette
Cool beans- who would know it was a nasty ol' microwave cart in its previous life? What does Jack think of it? I did my first chalk paint project this weekend. I think I am a drop-out! Should I sand before or after waxing? I've seen 2 tutorials- one sanding before and one sanding after waxing. I didn't get the look everyone else seems to get. aagghh... Maybe I should stick to styling and decorating and leave painting to the talented people! LOL
That turned out so fun, Debbie...love the sentiment...and Jack may be that professional fisherman one day!
Love the comment about how your son's room is always dirty anyway! Mine too! Thanks for always hosting the newbie's party...can't believe I now have too much time/followers to attend! But I really appreciated the effort and the help you gave me by hosting it when I could attend. Thanks so much.
Wow, great job with the cart! I have been away from blogging and you ladies are inspiring me to start blogging again. I love how you added "Dream Big" to the cart.
Thanks for sharing.
Sandra
Dearest Debbie,
You are quite welcome! Glad you got it done in a split second. Your blog deserves this extra exposure.
Your grandfather, who nick-named you must be smiling down from heaven...
Lots of love,
Mariette
Dear Debbie, thanks for hosting this newbie party every week. I think this will be my last post since I am over 100 followers now. I found a new newbie blogger today while looking at party posts and told her to come over here and join in on the newbie fun. I will still be lurking and commenting on posts at the Newbie Party.
Cool re-do. Dream big and "Big dream". A fishman's life living in a tranqulity bay is my dream. Sweet boy.
Debbie, the desk is darling! I bought my son the prepaid Florida 4 year collage when he was 9 for $2300, the best investment I ever made!
Carol
I am so bad. I would have been like, "What the heck would I do with that?!?" and look at you. It is awesome! You truly have a gift!
It's a great makeover, Debbie!
I was wondering how I would feel about the dark wax on my little project, done last week. I went ahead and posted it, although it still has some work to be done. I want to darken the sanded edges, but wondered how the dark wax would do against the white finish. I am afraid it might make the cabinet appear dirty, rather than "aged".
That looks amazing Debbie! I just got my Annie Sloan paint on Friday and can't wait to get started on all my furniture pieces. I have a whole room to do...wish me luck!
Have a wonderful day,
Gail
What a great transformation. Happy Monday! :)
You've done another wonderful job on this piece, Debbie! It looks perfect in Jack's room.
The 1980's never looked this good! Love how your decorated it!
Debbie you will doo!!...I love the painted napkins on previous post, can't wait to see the tablescape! And this old cart is fantastic, you sure know how to Doo that makeover magic!
Thank you so much for the copy of Country Woman magazine,I posted about on my blog,YOU ARE MY CELEBRITY,BLOG-BUDDY!!...I showed MrNeverLazy,he thinks you being published is soooo cool, and I do too!

Oh my word! I have that same ugly cart! I've gotta get some of that chalk paint! Great job, and I can't believe how clean your son's room is! You must tell me your secret! Oh, and I figured out how to turn that crazy word verification off! woohoo!
That is GORGEOUS Debbie! We practically gave one of those away that was my brother's in our last yard sale. I guess there is no ugly chalk paint can't fix!
Love what you did with that cart! And Jack sure is a cutie, he may surprise you (as they all do!)
I'm not exactly a newbie and won't be participating in the linky party, but if anyone is listening....I sure would love some painting advice on my latest :)
Your story cracked me up. Don't you just love boys?!?
Great job on the make over. As for the dark wax, it's supposed to make it look old and worn. It's great for showing details on things, if that's the look you're going for. I love it for some things, but not on other things. ;)
Thanks for hosting!
Hi Debbie,
I'm so excited to link up with my latest project. Thanks for hosting. Love your fish tale! And the cart looks great. At least your son doesn't want to be a professional monster truck driver!
BTW, link number 51 is a duplicate to number 52. The cropper wasn't working right and it gave me an ugly thumbnail. Thought you might want to delete it.
I'd like to say that this cart probably dates back to the 70's ~ I had one that looks like it. :-) It was a dark finish and let me tell you, the microwave was terribly expensive and weighed a ton! Just a bit of info for you ~ LOL
You did a super job on it and the color looks great in Jack's room. I'm with him re: the fishing. So much more fun than academics. :-) Kids just don't realize the importance of an education...at least not this early in his life.
Hang in there, mama!

I would have never looked at that microwave twice! Great Job, Miss Debbie! Thanks for hosting the newbie party! I've been getting a respectable number of hits from it, and I appreciate all the time you put into it! I seem to have duplicate listing #54 and #55. Not my intention, sorry.
Best,
Rikka J.
Ricochet and Away!
Hi Debbie- It's been too long! Had to stop by and see what you've been up to and of course you've whipped up another great project! Jack is a cutie and the stand makeover is awesome- I like the dark wax. Great job!
Debbie, just wanted to give you a heads up but the wording under the entries is not visible??? It is cut in half??? Now, the cart looks great in Jack's room!!!! Great find! XO, Pinky
Oh wow, Deb, you are the queen of awesome repurposing!!! I LOVE Jack's room--it's awesome! I'm so glad you got to see my blog--I was nervous about posting, but thought since it's been a year since the diet started I'd just show how far I got. I hope you're having a fabulous day, my friend.
XO
Cindy

Great job on the table,Debbie, turned out really nice. My boy never outgorwn fishing. He still loves to fish....Christine
Hi Debbie-I clicked over to your blog from "How time Flys" blog and too bad I don't qualify for your Newbie link, but I do love your blog, and all the fabulous thrift finds. You did an amazing job on the microwave rolling table and transformed it to a super cool desk for your son:DDD
I have a blog that started out mostly as "thrift finds" and it evolved into more foods. So happy to see other blogger that follow you that have the same interests!
Will be hanging around here more, since I am following you now.

Debbie what the world?? have been a friend forever and tonight gone! Joined again and it brought up my old pic.
Thank you for hosting, Debbie! It is great to get a chance to meet a bunch of other newbies!
Love your microwave cart fix. : ).. Thanks for hosting the Newbie Party and for following me as well! I appreciate it!
WoW! Can't BELIEVE it's the same cart!! Amazing!! I love it!! Yes, the wax does make things look rugged; I use the clear first and then just ad a little of the dark in spots and try to work it in, but it does make it look old. I love it esp. for kids' furniture. My kids could never have white furniture: what a mess it would be!! :S
Hey Debbie! I just wanted to share something about the dark wax. I was not fond of it at first either...then I read that you are suppose to put a coat of clear wax on first...don't know if you did this or not, but once I tried that, I liked the dark much better. It was much easier to spread and worked more like a glaze. I love the cart transformation!!! Happy painting!!!
Great find! I love the colors you used for the cart! That is so creative to use a microwave cart as a laptop desk. You have done a wonderful job decorating! I am new here and just wanted to say thanks for hosting this newbie party!
Awesome as usual my dear! I love the color and the words are wonderful. I have one of those kids too but its my daughter! I am so going to look for one of those carts at the GW! You are an inspiration!
Meg
