Spring clean up in 10 minutes!
Spring has now Sprung for most of us.

Started our Spring clean up as well!
One thing I do even throughout the winter is try to keep up with the raking of leaves, cleaning the deck, and even the windows.
You would never know it, half the time looking out of them.
But I do try to keep up, that way it is less work for us come now.
I am just going to share some pretty pics in between here.
There is random color bursting in our woods. I have never seen that before.
Nor have I ever seen yellow jasmine, just climbing all up and down the trees, that I certainly did not plant.
It is even high above in the branches...
Today we bought 15 bags of Pine nuggets for our front beds. The rest of the area I do pine needles. I like the texture combination. How about you?What do you use?
Trying my hand out at some knock out roses this year. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Knockout roses are super easy Debbie. You just let them grow and shape them every year. After a few years, you'll have to thin them out a bit. They are gorgeous when they bloom in the Spring. For mulch, we use single hammered hardwood mulch(not chips) Last week we put down 3 trailerfuls and was going to get a 4th, but the place ran out, so we'll finish up this weekend. It takes us about 15 yards of mulch(405 cu ft.) to do the whole yard, plus we get a yard of cypress chips for our wooded path. I can't wait to see your yard! I'm sure it will be gorgeous!
I did some Spring clean up this morning - taking a lunch break now. Sorry - I am of no help on the roses. I love roses, but never had any luck growing them.

From what I understand, Knock Out Roses are really easy to grow, however in colder climates, they need to be planted in the pot. I would go to a reliable local nursery to ask though. Lowes and Home Depot lack hiring people with in depth knowledge in the department they work in.
Pretty shots Debbie! I love the look of pine needles but you don't see that in the northeast. I use a little black mulch but mostly decorative rocks. The last two days it's be over 70 here, LOVE IT!
I'm no help on tips. Terrible gardener that I am! Last year we bought dark bark mulch for the beds. I love it! We'd seen it at some of the new constructions in our neighborhood. It goes well with our black shutters. We plan on doing some spring cleaning this weekend so maybe I'll post some photos next week.

We use a lot of wood chips here. The chickens scatter them all over though. Oh, for roses...chicken poop tea. Course, you are going to need chickens for that.
"Knock-Out Roses". I had never heard of them until I moved to Lousiana. You will love them. A better name would be "Survivor Roses" cause they can handle the heat and require almost nothing but shaping.
You will love the Knock out roses...they are kind of no-fail! We can't get pine mulch around here and I have always loved it. We used shredded hardwoods in the dark brown color. I love the way it dresses the beds up, don't you? xo Diana
Come on.... now I really feel guilty about heading to FL for a month. It's crazy and 78 here today. Last year, we were still shoveling snow. Great job getting the mulch down early, it will help keep the spring weeds back. Carry on, I'll be around and so still enjoy popping by on a break from packing.
According to my mom Knockout roses are super easy to grow. I've always admired her gardens, particularly her roses. She claims that even I can't kill Knockouts. Pretty pics! I suspect we'll see some color this week since it's been a veritable heat wave up here.
Great tidy up! Roses love garlic around them and lots of coffee grounds.
We're getting the yard graded next week and then the tidy up begins.

Everything is blooming here, too and so warm. I have used bark and pine straw. One year we had so much rain that the bark was washing away so since then we have used pine straw. I planted knockout roses last year and they did o.k., but not great. Maybe this year they will do better. They are just starting to grown leaves now.
We used pine bark on our flower beds too, roses like coffee grounds, when you empty the coffee pot dump the grounds around the roses, and I crushed egg shells and sprinkled around mine to keep slugs away.

I've been raking up all the sugar gum tree balls. We use black mulch here for the flowerbeds but I need a truck load of it so I won't be doing it anytime soon. :)

It is such a great time of year to get out and work in the yard like that. I have that same yellow jasmine vine on an arbor outside my kitchen window. It is full of big fat bumble bees right now. They're just buzzing around everywhere. We have to be careful now while we're on the back deck! Somebody must've thrown some out in your woods and it just took off. Ha!
Your yard is looking fabulous I am sure. Mine not at all!!!! Really needs a ton of work. The roses do fabulous here. I have better luck with the ones that get some afternoon shade and not the blazing hot sun, however they do want a lot of morning sun. Love them. Hugs, Marty
I have many knockouts, the yellow ones are scented. Here we have them in the highway medians where they barely maintain them and they do fine. I clean some section of the house for just 30 minutes a day. Today I vacuumed and mopped. Hugs, Olive
Debbie, I have yellow jasmine poppin out everywhere in the woods that I certainly did not plant either. It's wild, what is up with this? I don't have all the pretty purple stuff that you have though. I sure wish we could hire someone to come rake all the leaves away around here! I was off today and did some cleaning up around outside and found out that a climbing rose I transplanted from the back of the house to the side of the front porch has come back and is growing like crazy. I'm so excited, I need a trellis! We literally built the fence in our backyard beside our deck steps AROUND the knock out rose so we could enclose the pool w/out uprooting the rose bush. It has gone crazy and is more like an overgrown monsterous bush! You should totally get one! I use pine bark mulch not nuggets. The pinebark is great because it cuts down on insects. We like the mulch because it doesn't wash away as fast as the nuggets do on our clay. Can't wait to see more of your beautiful yard this spring!
Hi, the pine nuggets seem to float away on me. I like red mulch, I know a lot of people don't like mulch that is red, heck if I could I would do pink mulch!

I hear great things about knock out roses. Supposed to be a no fuss rose. Can't wait to see how yours do:)
Debbie, I have knockout roses. They bloom their little heads off most of the year. I prune them back to about 2' every February around Valentine's Day. This year they were covered with blooms and buds, but had to get them pruned. They are in full sun, get little water, and handled our severe heat last summer. I'd love to add some of the white ones. Good luck with these. I don't think you'll be disappointed. ~ Sarah
Advice from the hubby (I DO NOT have a green thumb!!) pinch off the spent bloom and the roses will continue to bloom all season! So easy!! The warm weather is taking us all outdoors!!
