Not your typical Christmas present! {vintage, rustic home decor} NEWBIE party started!

This my friends is not your typical Christmas present one would expect from their husbands.
 Some girls love diamonds, some love perfume! Me, yes, I love those things too, however, give  me something old, something different, more of a conversation piece, and that  is really the perfect gift for me.
Of course anything rooster works too, just in case your wondering.
You know I love things of sentiment as well.

Family treasures are the best gifts of all, from the heart, with meaning and a real history and story to be told.
I will be sharing soon a very lovely gift my father- in- law gave me as well, that I love, however, I have to be dressed purty to show you that one.
This brings me to Mike's  very unique gift to me.

Very old, very rustic, and indeed very unique.
The funny thing about this, is that I saw this piece when I was out antiquing with my blogging friends, Cindy and Carrie

I stopped dead in my tracks, said "WOW this is cool", but I have no place at all to put it and Mike would kill me if I come home with it.

It wasn't that cheap let's  just say that...it wasn't that expensive either, but it was not the typical good will price, and score I would normally make.
I am frugal like that.
All I can say is, Mike and I are so on the same page sometimes it is scary!
However, it is a good thing, we both like strange and unique stuff.

I am sure you are thinking, why on earth do you like this old, typo's all over, church bulletin?

I don't know, I just do!

But no worries, my husband did add in a little bling too...

In fact this too is made from old keys and bolts...

Pretty cool necklace!

Oh and if you are wondering where we found a place to hang the new bulletin...

We found the perfect spot!

What is a Monk?

A monk may be conveniently defined as a member of a community of men, leading a more or less contemplative life apart from the world, under the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, according to a rule characteristic of the particular order to which he belongs.

 let me say different, in a good way!  

.  Mike is a fun a guy, and really smart too.  Never a DULL moment with him.

He loves history and he loves conversation pieces. 

His English pub is his domain. 

 YOU will never see me paint or change a thing. 

 On our recent vacation we went thrifting one day.  He found these three as I call them blind monks.  He loved em..and had to have them.  

So here is where they sit, think and read...

They look like they are reading with their eyes closed!

I know, they are a bit out there! Mike loves them..and that is all that matters.

Old English window cornices

Hey there gals! Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. 

 We were non stop and It is catching up with me big time!

Sometime back, I had shared with you a snippet of a score we found at a local antique shop.

It is a small shop, with some wonderful finds here locally.

I spied these cornices right away, and knew my first thoughts as to what to do with them.

Fearful to look at the price...I had to because I really wanted them, but of course would not pay a lot, because I am cheap like that.  After all, it is called thrifting.

Well....much to my shock, they were $50.00 a piece. GASP!

This poor woman has no clue what she is selling..was my first thought. However, 

what she did know is that they came out of a very wealthy woman's home in England, and that they were old, like from the early 1900's. She never thought they would sell, as they are custom to size and not every home would really work with these.

I knew from eyeing it alone, they would fit. I never measure, my bad, I know...but I have an OK eye sometimes.

"OK great", we are outta here with these babes.

Mike and I have since tried finding any history, and come up with nothing.

If you were to have something custom made, it would be atleast 500.00 a piece, and of course not an antique.

Mike truly loves them in his Old English pub room.

So there you have it, you never know what you can find, when thrifting...

we never set out for these, but they found us instead.

They certainly will make their own history. And I realize these may not be for everyone's liking or taste. But we love them and that is what counts.

Meet Sherry!

Sherry is a rummager,

a junker, a thrifter....sometimes a picker... but mostly  a rescuer. She loves to rescue vintage items, clean them up, do minor repairs and share them in her booths at the local antique mall.

In fact Sherry and I met through a mutual friend Linda from Al La Carte

Linda started joining my Garage salen party, and then down the line, I passed the party down to her, which is still going strong for the record, Junkin finds Friday, go check it out, that is going on now.

I have been busy rearranging and adding some new bright colors for Spring and Summer into my Family Room.  Our Family room has been a bit of a challenge to decorate.  With 24ft. ceilings, it is not always easy to achieve a warm space.  We love Old World style and have spent the last four years antiquing and finding unique items to add to our home.  The Church window is 100 years old and came from a church in Upstate New York.  We found it in  an old restoration antique store in the Charlotte area.  It was the perfect addition to the space. My Mantel has also been a challenge.  The open space was suppose to be occupied by a TV.  We added a candelier  which we where given for our 10 year anniversary 5 years ago.....old mantel clock, paired up with some old books,  completed the Old World style as well.  On top of our entertainment center is a combination of Old and New.  The old wooden sign is from a local state park, that too we found at a local antique store,  in fact it was not for sale.....they did however, sell it to us for $60.00 and we could not be happier, as it points to our woods and reads Chester Lookout tower report woods Fire here......and has the arrow pointing the the woods.  Hope you Enjoy our Family room as much as we do.  The style may not be the norm for everyone...but then again, we are not the NORM, lol, so it is fitting for us!~
