Not your typical Christmas present! {vintage, rustic home decor} NEWBIE party started!

Decorating with vintage, rustic, antique decor
This my friends is not your typical Christmas present one would expect from their husbands.
Some girls love diamonds, some love perfume! Me, yes, I love those things too, however, give  me something old, something different, more of a conversation piece, and that  is really the perfect gift for me.
Of course anything rooster works too, just in case your wondering.
You know I love things of sentiment as well.

Family treasures are the best gifts of all, from the heart, with meaning and a real history and story to be told.
I will be sharing soon a very lovely gift my father- in- law gave me as well, that I love, however, I have to be dressed purty to show you that one.
This brings me to Mike's  very unique gift to me.

Very old, very rustic, and indeed very unique.
The funny thing about this, is that I saw this piece when I was out antiquing with my blogging friends, Cindy and Carrie

I stopped dead in my tracks, said "WOW this is cool", but I have no place at all to put it and Mike would kill me if I come home with it.

It wasn't that cheap let's  just say that...it wasn't that expensive either, but it was not the typical good will price, and score I would normally make.
I am frugal like that.
All I can say is, Mike and I are so on the same page sometimes it is scary!
However, it is a good thing, we both like strange and unique stuff.

I am sure you are thinking, why on earth do you like this old, typo's all over, church bulletin?

I don't know, I just do!

But no worries, my husband did add in a little bling too...

In fact this too is made from old keys and bolts...

Pretty cool necklace!

Oh and if you are wondering where we found a place to hang the new bulletin...

We found the perfect spot!

Merry Christmas to all!

Let's get this Newbie party started.

Rustic wall art {gallery wall ideas}

Rustic wall art, gallery wall home decor ideas.
Good morning everyone!
Hope you are getting your last minute, baking, wrapping, shopping, cards and all that fun Christmas stuff done.
Today I would like to share with you our Bunco group's Christmas party.

To start the night off with a little laugh, both these gals Sue and Susan showed up in the same sweater!
obviously not planned.
{Steinmart}

My friend Cathy has the perfect home for entertaining.
In fact this is her basement!
It is so warm and so cozy.
As you can see this is where the food was going.  We all bring a little something to munch on.

Yes, we are doing a little Christmas cheer!
Cheers to all!
Now.....
I want to share with you Cathy's rustic gallery walls,
 and all her cool treasures.

They wanted the cracker barrel feeling down there.
Keep in mind most of what you see here, are all treasures from
her husbands family barn.
For years, these things sat in the barn.

Some of these things are over 100 years old.

Old doors and windows.

See how her husband hung that wood old door?
Like an awning....
That was my hubs idea and they obviously loved it...
it looks awesome!

They even have a picture of the old barn of which the rustic treasures came out of.

This saddle they actually bought at our local antique mall,
and as you can see, it could not be more perfect.

That old beer sign...well what a find that was...
Bass is their last name...HOW perfect, I LOVE THAT! It was so meant to be.

So as you can see this is one cozy rustic basement.
We had a great Bunco Christmas party, and I wish I had more pics to share of us being silly and stealing each other's gifts.  Unfortunately, much to incriminating to post.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Decorating with Owls {rustic, nature, woods}

This season I really had a lot of fun decorating with Owls..... HERE, and HERE.
I love rustic, nature and wood, so what could be better?
Today I had a photo shoot with one very special little owl.
My friend Kat was hosting a giveaway, and I won.
Kat makes these little guys aside from other wonderful works of art.
Well Mr. Owl arrived today.

Can you spy him there on the tree?
He is adorable.

In fact, Mr. Doo's, ran right out to put a nail on the tree for me.
He likes him too!

He really is made so nicely, moss and all.
I do believe he is protected with some sealant on him...but even so, he should be able to take our Carolina weather.

Don't you just love when moss grows on trees?
...wish it were money instead, but hey, it's green!

Kat, thank you so much! Mr. Owl, has a great new home!
He is behind that little bench you see.
When we sit out there we can enjoy looking at him.
XO

We are at full peak here now...so sad to see it go.
One gust of good wind and say goodbye to Fall:(

Have a wonderful day!
I am off Christmas shopping today.
anyone else start yet?

Are you Nuts?

After a while it becomes a task to think of titles for posts.  I tend to title whatever the first thing that pops in my head!
Continuing on our decorating with sentiment....
This by far Mike said is his favorite thing ever that his Father recently passed down to him.
My husband is a really simple guy, simple pleasures, and loves things that are conversation pieces...could be a buck, but if it is cool, he loves that!
So check out this little guy, he is a nut cracker, hence, the title of my post. I know, makes no sense, but humor me please, I need to grab your attention some how.
This is OLD! I believe my FIL said it was for sure over 100 years old.  Heavy little guy too!

There is where the nut goes! I may have to try it out sometime.
I found a good home for him and Mike can enjoy looking at it every day.
Have you ever seen one of these nutcrackers?
We really have no history on this cutie..
While I am at it, how about seeing my FREE coffee table tray.
I say free, because I had a coupon to PIER I for $20.00. This tray was only $9.99, originally 39.99.  I really like it, it has that rustic look, and all my favorite colors.
So far so good on my moss ball, I am keeping it alive.

Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for stopping by and your sweet, kind comments.
I always tell Mike all the nice things you say, he really does care, even if he rolls his eyes at me behind my back! He so knows better to do in front of my face!
ahhhh Men, they just don't get it!

Front porch Part II

Here is yet another tid bit on the front porch.
This table is undergoing it's third transformation.

First time was mod podged,
second time was painted and glazed,

and this time is spray painted and stenciled.
First view a little slide show..I have done these slide shows when I first started blogging and forgot how neat they are.  I have seen some other gals doing videos, Liz, Layla, Carrie, but I am not good with the video camera, just yet, so this was easier.

BEFORE, painted and glazed
This table has three or four different paints and techniques, that I will share in the future, all very simple
notice I stenciled the clay pot too?
I am out of control with the stencils now...

I of course wanted the smeared, rustic, beat up look.
It is not suppose to be neat and all fancy looking.
Thank GOD! I do not do well at those projects, as perfectionist is not my forte' in the painting furniture department!
That was all about I can show you of the table for now. The front porch is still in process.
Still more to come on the Front porch.
The neighbors sure are talking, and not sure if it is good! Let me just say, our house is standing out with color!

One gal stopped her car and said she  feels like a slacker compared to me..I told her,
"hey it does not take that much energy to get out a can of spray paint", really, you all need to try it and be sure to come to my partay on March 25th to see all kinds of fun colorful projects!

Blood, Sweat and tears!

That is what I feel like after doing one chair!
Now I know why I love spray paint so much. It is way easier to paint a  rocking chair with  a can opposed to a brush and roller. So many nooks and crannies.

These rockers were purchased many moons ago, and were originally oak.
I then spray painted them black, and lightly distressed them, that was  few years back BB (before blogging)
This year our front porch is getting a mini makeover.
I always change out per season, but this year I wanted a dramatic difference.
I am not sure the direction I will be going, however, I did know how I wanted
to redo the rockers.
So I sought out my color...
and decided I would start today.

I sanded the heck out of these chairs after the paint dried.
Tomorrow I will be working on the other chair.
I wanted a change and had to start somewhere.
The hat is not staying, I only threw that on there for special effects.
 This was last summer.
I would love some ideas.
We love country rustic, Spanish, Old world decor...
If I can incorporate a little of each, I would be happy.
I want to replace the cross too with something else...
Thanks so much!
XO
And let's not forget on March 25th color my World party..spray paint ONLY!

Rustic bench

Hello there and a happy Saturday to you all!
Not such a nice one here in the Carolinas today.
Although, temps are good, it is very gloomy and misty here today.
Thought I would share this bench my husband made for me around 4 years ago.
There is a story to it, as most things we have, there is a story.
You see when we first moved to the Carolinas, we fell in love with everything rustic and natural. We would spend hours driving around and looking at other homes and landscapes.
One particular, very upscale I might add neighborhood ( we could not even afford the driveway kinda homes) we loved, had these gorgeous rustic benches, randomly throughout these rolling hills.

I said to my ever so sweet, never did wood working a day in his life husband.  "you can so do that",
he of course, said NO way, I never did anything like that in my life.
You see I have all the confidence in the World in him.  I reassured  him, he could, and would he at least try?

So off to Lowes we went one fine day, and within a weekend, I had my very own rustic bench. Even better I might add!
He put a lot of time and good quality into this bench.  It has been sitting happily near our outdoor fireplace since.
We love it.
Now the house number was just an add on, because the company made a mistake on centering, so they sent us a new one. Instead of wasting it, I thought it would look good on the bench.
Believe it or not, the mailman love it too.
This guy hung around me while I was taking pics. Is it me, but does this squirrel have no eye?
Have a great rest of the weekend gals.
I will see you for the Newbie party tomorrow night.
