I had no intention of doing a project today, HOWEVER......for the past year I have been looking for an old piece of furniture to refinish. It had to be just the right size, and just the right height. Mission after mission, I come up with nothing! You see I have had this corner dilemma in my kitchen. I like to have just about every nook and cranny filled in my home. In the meantime I have had this old retro rolling cart in my corner, which totally did not work. So today I was in the Walmart, as usual and all of a sudden I came up with a.....
Well the color is a bright idea, however not sure on the project.....for now it was cheap, and would suit my purpose. This is is how the corner looked before....
Just a mess actually! I had given up all hope......
and then I saw this piece...YUK I know what was I thinking?
Totally does not work in my house at all, but for 19.96 I thought I can come up with something....so I came home put it together in 15 minutes.....took my bright idea paint, and sprayed away....
Love my new measuring cups from Pier I
All my favorite colors
Finally some storage for my cookbooks which have been tucked away in a cupboard
This is an oldie but goodie we found at a local antique store...some darn good southern cooking in here!
So for now my under $25.00 project will do, til I find just the right piece. What do you think? Does it look cheesy?
I like this picute, no rhyme or reason
The Dining area in the kitchen is probably my favorite room in our house. I love the backyard view with all the trees. When the sun is streaming through as you can see here it is very scenic. I see birds, all kinds, cardinals, blue jays, woodpeckers, finches, hummingbirds. I have a family of 7 deer, that like to pop in and say hi as well, then of course we have squirrels and rabbits. When the Fall season arrives the colors are amazing. I change up the decor a bit per season, and right now this is my Spring Summer look.
Lots of parties to join this coming week...to kick off the weekend I am linking up to Funky junk interiors.
Thank you to all you awesome hosts for these linkie parties, I love them! And thanks everyone for your comments, I sure do appreciate it, and will be sure to return the same to you. Lynda over at Focal point blogspot had a
Bright idea, and that was to get some S hooks to hang my measuring cups...hence I did! Thanks Lynda. And if you have not been over at Lynda's blog, you really should, the girl has Mad talent!!~

NOTHING in these photos looks cheesy - - -
Go back and take one more look at my barrio post - - - it will help you LOVE what you have.
;-)
I don't think it looks cheesy, I think it looks fun and whimsical...
Well, here you go again. Bright idea huh. And of course, I love the color.... what am I going to do with you??! You are going to convert me altogether?!? Hehehe. :) It looks amazing in that room, such a transformation, I never would have guessed it could look so good!
And the tea cups, oh man... I have searched for measuring tea cups for about 4 years now, and I might be able to find some at Pier 1?!?! SCORE of the century, I hope!!!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
OMG, you are the queen of reuse and reinvent! Yay you on helping the environment. I love how the rack turned out and hey, I have the exact same rooster as your pink one. Got him in Portugal on a trip there about 8 or 9 years ago! Too cool, I must have good taste Lol!
You are making me love that yellow paint! I have three of those shelf things in my decorating closet/room. I am thinking about cutifying that room and I never thought about painting those shelves. You have shown me such great possibilities!!
BTW, I think your corner looks super cute
Deb: The shelf works....I just love the yellow and it goes so well in your home. I don't think that you have to change it again... I almost stop on the side of the road the other day...saw an old fashioned metal type couch thing...now I wished that I would have stopped....I could have cleaned it up, sprayed it a cool color and added cushions..darn it!!
I like it and don't think it looks cheesy at all.
The yellow paint is what makes it look good. I love those measuring cups, I would love a set of those! I will have to make a trip to Pier 1. As always, a great job.
Nothing you do ever looks cheesy, it looks great but what I want to know is when do you sleep!!!!
I can't believe you have such a creative eye Debbie. I would have never thought to pull that together. It definitely does NOT look cheesy. It looks terrific!!!!! I love it.
I LOVE this room!!! Roosters and lemons...my heart be still!
I think it looks really good. Love the yellow and those measuring cups are too cute! Your walls even look yellower today. Did your repaint those, too. Better watch out with that yellow paint now. We may have to call the paintaholics anonymous group!
No Kim, I did not repaint the walls, I think it is just different angles I am taking. MARTINA when are you going to start a blog? I would love for you to be on here, you have such lovely to share!
You are too young to remember the song... color my world. It is perfect for you right now. I like the change. I have cookbooks stashed away, but I do like to read them like magazines, every now and then.
Have you bought stock in Krylon?
Great project Deb and LOVE the lemon branches!! Those measuring cups from P1 are precious too... Do you have any S hooks to display them hanging on your new cart?
Took your Home Tour too... you have a really beautiful home...
Have a lovely weekend!
Lynda
Practical and whimsical at the same time! My hands were green today, were your yellow??? Hehe!
Really, we're not addicted to spray paint!
I love your bright idea, and that beautiful stand. It is not cheesy at all.
Beautiful lemon branches also!
Thanks for the follow! I really like your blog! Happy FF! Thanks for the comment on my blog!

Cheesy, no way. It's adorable!
Love your table and the whole area.
The shelf looks so great! I had a couple just like that and have some really ugly ones that are very commercial looking. I store the china I sell on them in racks...but maybe I should paint them to freshen them up and make them look alive. This looks so nice!
LOVE IT!! Everything about your 'bright idea' project is pleasing to the eye! It just makes your dining room POP! Great Job!
~Holly
Love it!! Would you believe still no tea cups!!
Hi Debbie, thanks for visiting my blog! I love the bright yellow, it's so cheerful! I also LOVE your new measuring cups. Gotta get me some...
I'm thirsty...did you make any lemonade? :)

Hmmmm...My walls are yellow, your walls are yellow. My dining room wall has black lettering on it and your wall does too. I have roosters and chickens in my decor and you do too.
I have French doors in the dining room and so do you.
Are you copying me? Oh wait. Never mind. When I have another look at your dining room I see how beautiful your room is and my room...not so much.
Great project here.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Wow yours is amazing. I was once told that you need at least 1 rooster in your kitchen for good luck. You are surely fortune full. I have 2 in mine. I am always keeping an eye out for neat ones though. Love the corner redo by the way.
You so rock, Debbie! Standing up clapping and packing up to move in with you! ;)
I love the lemon branches in the vases...it looks fresh and beautiful...my kind of decorating simplicity with BIG impact!
Those shelves took the paint really well...I'll have to try that...I have those in my closets.
Just love it! I have several of those metal shelves and never once thought they could be painted...mine are in closets but I might have to re-think what I could do with them now..thank you for your brilliance once again.
Bravo! Luv LUV the redo!! The room is AWESOME. The shelf just fits right in:) Great pics, too.
Happy Friday!
You are very creative, what a great idea and it works so well
OK first off so NOT cheesey! Second I want to sleep over and have breakfast in that room! It is so cheerful and I could sit at that table and drink coffee all day, what a pretty view. Oh and I'll take one rooster lamp and a set of those super cute measuring cups...please! Thank you! So happy I stumbled onto your blog, LOVE it!
i love how you just whip up some fabulousness... you are a talented gal!
I don't think it looks cheesy at all. Quite the contrary! That yellow looks so cheery and bright.
It looks great, not cheesy at all. I like how it brings in a different texture to the room. With the large wooden table and cabinet it breaks everything up and looks very cheery!
I LOVE those Pier 1 measuring cups. I used to work there so it holds a special place in my heart:)
I like the idea someone mentioned above about using 3 hooks to hang them on your new yellow shelf.

Okay Deb so I know Im in older posts like you said but once again I found some lemons....I LOVE LEMONS! Your rooms have all my favorite things, lemons, roosters and color! Are the branches in that vase real? OMG do you have a lemon tree? I have 2 of those racks. lol They were kitchen storage in my old home and now they are outside one on either side of the 2 bbq grills. Guess what I feel a painting party coming on. Im going to paint them one of the colors of my mexican talavera tile. I have a picture of them somewhere..but they have red,blue,lime,off-white,golden yellow. Thanks so much for a new idea. Its always a pleasure browsing you blog. Its like my bedtime story..lol it's now 12:07am. goodnite
I didn't remember the measuring cups from Pier1 the last time I looked at this...those are so cool - like the way Grandma used a broken tea cup for her one cup measure back in the piOneer days!!
I featured you at my Creative High party!!
I love the yellow. It's a happy color. It looks fantastic.
