Coming oUt of the CloSet

I have a very unique and special giveaway you really do not want to miss out on....please check it out HERE
You must see it to believe it! Please check out this office closet post first:)
Let me start off by asking the question....can I use more closet space? You bet I can.  I am overwhelmed with pillows and decor, that I change out per season.  However, my boys could use this space more than I can and it is important to have a nice little quiet work space to call their own.  So what I decided to do last year sometime was make their TV room closet into an office.  For the past year they have neglected it, and banged up the desk.  They really where not using it, because I did not have it set up properly, you live and learn after 1,000 projects.  I decided first I would paint their desk. I love this paint/stain, it actually has the polyurethane in it so it saved that step for me.

This is the BEFORE...notta good working space, and really what was I thinking with the stupid rug for a mat, and flowers...geezzz...

I made this with Jack the other night, baby clothes pins glued together, he just thought this was so cute

This was a super easy slip cover, I used a pillow case, and ironed on the letters.  The pretty teal colored frame came from Walmart and I bought the poster at hobby lobby for $6.00.  I loved the colors and the verse on it.

As you can see I also distressed the edges of the desk with sandpaper, I know they will be nicking the desk so I thought I would make it look a little rugged

Changed out the knobs as well, to simple white

I would say they have a great little space here now! All done on a budget of $50.00! You can't beat that for a makeover.
Thank you hosts for having these linky parties, I could not do it without you!~

I LOVED the before part and was going to run to the comment section to give my rave reviews on space utilization, when i noticed the AFTER! I want to sit there and read. Can you iron out "Girls rock" too for me? (looking at you with my best puppy-eyed expression) blink! blink!

Polyurethane sounds like a blessing while you say it, but i'm just asking- what is it doing with the paint? I'll google.

I love the pen-stand! Your daughters-in-law, whenever they come, are going to be in awe of you!

Wow! Debbie I absolutely love it! The framed poster gave the space a lot of color and you might as well distress the desk - the black color was a good choice...and the slip cover for the chair was also a nice touch. I know your boys liked it. Here's hoping it stays this nice for a while. Smiles.

Love the change. How many coats did it take? Do you find the finish is holding up to wear and tear. I'm curious because we had a bedroom set to refinish and I want to do it right the first try.

Wow, fantastic job Deb I bet the boys use this space a lot more now. It's hard thinking for boys sometimes and we can get caught up in our own style and taste and have to rethink as a boy would.
Thanks for the inspiration.
