Do you have the winter blues?
In fact many even suffer from winter depression., better known as SAD (Seasonal Affective disorder)
I would say I am a so and so on that one. I can admit it, I have some of those side effects.
Of course living in the Carolina's we do not have terrible winters. And we see the sun often, actually most of the time. HOWEVER, we are under a Winter weather advisory now....UGH!
Can I just tell you that this candle smells the entire house, yes the ENTIRE house! Oh so good! |
I am a firm believer that color affects your mood. In fact see for yourself HERE this is so true for me.
Can you believe these strawberries from Target this time of year were absolutely delicious? |
Red has taken over this month around here. Could it be because Red: (think passion) stimulates, arouses, heightens awareness. Sounds good to me! |
Not only did this dessert taste delicious, it looked so pretty too. |
Does not get any easier than this. Angel food cake, layered with fat free cool whip, fresh strawberries..... |
and just a few walnuts on top and you have a delicious, low fat dessert. I would recommend you investing a few dollars in a TRIFLE bowl, they are a great thing to have, and you can really get creative when using them. Absolutely beautiful photos! Strawberry Trifle is one of my favs. Yum! Thanks for all the winter cheer!
That does look good. I do have a trifle bowl. Yep, you can use it for a lot of things. We are ready for this darn storm coming, too. I pray we don't lose power, but we have Doug's propane heaters from his garage to use if we do.
Debbie, you are right. Winter/Jan. can make you feel blah, but not at your house! Wow! You make such a lovely home for you and your family. Thanks for the warm and cozy and yummy inspiration! xoxo
YUMMY! I'm sure your family thoroughly enjoyed gobbling that up! The winter doldrums have hit our home; however, Spring is *right* around the corner! Have a great day.
That strawberry trifle looks so yummy. I can get a little SAD but generally do OK this time of year. I am prepared for the storm and I'm hoping our power doesn't go out.
I fix the exact same dessert. It is soooooooooooo good!
Love the reds! I'm doing some red right now too.
We are expecting the bad weather too. UGH!!
Have a great week!!
Looks great. My truffle bowl was broken a few years ago, I do miss it. I like yours. Winter weather warning here today. Snow should start at noon.
Good Morning Debbie-do-it-best...
Oh girl it's on;y 6am and I'm sitty here in my Old Red robe and I want some strawberries ha ha!!
Thanks again for a fun post my sweet young friend..Hope you have a GREAT week I have to go get a crib today for Landen and give him tons of love..dirty job but someone has to do it ha ha!! Love ya girl, Hugs and smiles Gloria
Oh your dessert does look wonderful. I need a trifle bowl, that is the one thing I don't have, and you are right, they can be used in so many ways. Love the red. Hugs, Marty
I don't have the winter blues [yet] however every now and than I think about the upcoming Spring and Summer and can't help but get a little excited.. but than I think about the 500% humidity that typically starts around March and my mind quickly switches back to winter lol!
That trifle looks delicious!!!
I love doing trifles for dessert. Who knew middle of the winter Target strawberries could be delicious? I'll have to give them a whirl.
Seriously? Those strawberries are good? I have been finding awful ones here--but then we don't have a Target close to us that is a Superstore. Sam's had some wonderful ones at Christmastime.
I know a lot of people that suffer from SADD. I don't like all the grey days that this time of year brings either, but I don't suffer the depression that some people do. Today, here, it is bright and sunny and beautiful...very unlike our weather most years. Of course, it is at the zeroº mark outside~brrrrr.
I hope the storm doesn't do much damage there and I know how awful it is for all of you Southern gals who are not used to driving in snow and ice...and you don't have the road equipment to handle it...nor the crews on standby.
Happy Sunday anyway-stay inside where it is warm and dry..build a fire, put an old movie on and eat chocolate! Yep- that is MY cure for SADD~ Hugs-Diana
Looks yummy! Jan. and Feb. are the worst Winter months for me.
Snow due in here late today. it is already cloudy and gloomy out. Just hope I don't lose power and/or heat.
Have a great week.
Hi Debbie~ Wow-looks delicious!
Even though I am in California, we get snow and cold where we are... I do not love the cold or snow... at all... I am a warm weather kind of girl! :)
I do love your reds, though- they are beautiful! Thanks for sharing! :)
Debbie your dessert looks yummy and I love your touches of red. You stay safe and warm. I think we're suppose to be getting it here in Southern Maryland as well.
Have a wonderful day,
Gail
I can almost smell the candle and taste the strawberries from here!!! By the way, your photos are wonderful...especially like the snowflake!
Morning Deb! Your strawberry shortcake trifle looks wonderful!!!! And about candles. Love em'! I have one going all the time. I used to be a Yankee girl, but my daughter is now selling Gold Canyon, and those are my new favs!
Happy Sunday!
Yum! I want that candle. I'll have to search for it.
I am ready for spring sunshine Debbie. I hear ya! :)
What words..
Your reds really did warm me up...I have a red candle burning now, only it is called Apple Picking!! Clearance! Oh well...I will think fall instead of spring!
I have a trifle dish and you have inspired me to do something with it today! ;-D
XO,
Jane
Hi Debbie...Have not heard of that candle brand. I agree with you that having a trifle bowl is a must. As a matter of fact, I'm giving one as a birthday gift this afternoon.
Filling it with a decadent caramel sauce and real heavy cream, though, plus angel food cake so the recipe is NOT a low cal one, like the yummy strawberry one.
Hope you have a terrific Sunday. Susan
Yes, I do get the winter blues. So far it hasn't set in; although, I am feeling very restless.
I love that you can get sweet strawberries year 'round now. We had some last night for dinner and I ate the few that were left this morning.
Where did you get those beautiful heart-shaped bottles?
Hi Debbie, Love this post! I don't have the winter blues...perhaps because like you I love in Va....with much sun (but snow coming tomorrow or a wintry mix as they say) but I do have the winter whites. I am itching to change my family room to white. Love all your reds in this post and the trifle bowl. I bought one a couple of years ago and use it often. Makes such an elegant dessert. xoxo
These looks amazing...I love anything with fruit! I definitely have the blahs today! But I think I will get out and about and that usually lifts my spirits! Enjoy your afternoon! Hugs! ♥
That looks delicious! It sort of looks like an English trifle:) We don't get really bad weather here so I love it when we get some gloom altho it would get to me if it was relentless.
Wow, you're only an hour from my brother...we will totally have to get together when I go there! I'd love to do some real life blabbing!!! I'm not sure what you meant about the email thing but I need to change my profile anyway so I'll try to figure it out. Enjoy the rest of the weekend:)
That trifle looks yummy, I agree you need a good trifle bowl.
Hi, Debbie~
I must say I am a winter gal. I love the colder weather. I don't do well with the high humidity and mosquitoes of summer. Yuck!
Your dessert looks yummy. My mom makes that a lot. It is very good...and pretty!
I got some strawberries at Food Lion yesterday. Katie and I have eaten almost all of them already. Ours were really good too!
I hope you will have a great week. Stay safe in all the winter weather! :)
Wow Debbie !
Perchè ci fai vedere questo meraviglioso dolce, se non possiamo poi assaggiarlo ?
Sigh !
Buona serata :)
Myriam
I want that desert! You're awesome with the food, too!!! Red is something I love! Hope the candle keeps your mood warm and nice! Happy Sunday to you!!
Love your pictures and I sure wanted a bite of that yummy looking dessert. We haven't had a lot of cold weather here on the Texas coast yet...looks like that might change this next week !
I could stick my face in that trifle bowl! That looks so yummy!!! It is so cold here! We just got back from a walk and I am freezing! Praying for a snow day tomorrow so we can sleep in!!
Happy New Year my dearest girl!!! I wish nothing but a wonderful, safe and glourious year for you and your family!!!!!!
Oh my, that looks SOOO delish!!!
Stay safe Debbie. That is a low fat dessert if you can control yourself:) Yummy!
I've got the trifle bowl but I couldn't make something that big just for 3 of us... great for a party though. It looks so delish. Is the fat free cool whip good? I could make smaller individual servings ;)
That trifle looks yummy Debbie! I get SAD very easily so must watch for it and seek the light. I could not live in a rainy climate. We are hunkered down for this winter storm in Ga. of all places. ♥O
LOVE all the red! The trifle looks delish...
We had snow for awhile earlier today but it's all gone now. Hope you have a great week!
xo
Pat
Debbie we are under a winter storm watch here in Myrtle Beach as well. You are so right us Carolinians can't drive on drive pavement let alone snow or ice. If it snows or there is ice,Myrtle Beach will shut down.LOL
I am wondering how this winter weather advisory will turn out. I kind of want schools to close so we don't have to leave the house. Your dessert looks great. I need to invest in a trifle bowl. You must be in North Carolina because I don't know of any Super Targets in South, well not in Columbia or Charleston.
pretty pictures! I have those same heart glass jar things!!
I also love that candle, I love almost all of Slatkins winter scents, especially the fresh Balsam and the Spice
YUM! That dish would cure my winter blues in a skinny minute. It looks so good! I can just taste it. I've never used this brand of candle before I will have to look for one. I have been burning my candles like crazy lately too though, it really does help with making me feel cozier during these cold wintery days. Hope you all stay safe and warm. No school for us already, but I'm really going to be surprised if we get any snow. We'll see!
Trifle looks yummy...dessert always cheers me up!!!
Oh, that looks sooooo good. Good luck tomorrow with the weather. Hugs, Ginger
that looks sooo yummy! I just may have to make that! The candle that I have burning now is Slatkin & Co. Kitchen spice. I get so many wonderful compliments on that scent.
That does look yummy!
I too suffer a little from SAD and we have grey weather alot of the year here in the Pacific Northwest. But that strawberry angel food trifle would perk me up right away!!That looks soooo yummy! Me thinky I need some of that NOW!*winks* Vanna
