Christmas in the kitchen {Holiday vignettes}

Christmas in the kitchen! and sharing all my vignettes!
Happy Saturday gals!
I have aleady shown you the dinette area, so let's take a quick look on the other side.

Started with a craft...
I had this olden coffee sign I purchased at Marshalls some time ago.
It hung in the kitchen for a while.

Simply used chalk board paint, for the center,
red craft paint for the upper and lower,
a snow flake stencil,
and embellished with a foam large snow flake on top.

Easy peasy as I always say!

Of course I stenciled the Let it snow part as well, No way my hand writing would or could look like this.

Cinnamon sticks...

Spray painted my orange pumpkins, why waste them..
topped off with some glitter.

Mr. Roo needed a big ole pretty bow too.

Saved soda bottles from World market..
Love these things!

and check out my new vintage roo bread box, compliments of my Father -in-law!

He gives me the best goodies!

That's all Folks!

Blogging on the run here, I am pretty pooped out from all these virtual parties, and NOW
I have to physically attend a few!

Have a great day, see you tomorrow night for the newbie party.

Rooster Kitchen decor {French Country} NEWBIE party started

Never sure if the correct verbiage is French Country or Country French.  I guess it does not matter.
That is what my kitchen is and I am stickin to it.
I have tried to weed these little guys {roosters} out for years.

First, let me tell you a little story how a conversation went with my Mom.
So, I am on face book one day, and she instant messages me...
"Hi Deb" I need to talk to you.
Pinned Image
{This was the look in the summer time}

UH OH, was my first thoughts, this sounds serious.
So, I call her...and this is how the story goes.....

"Deb, you know how sometimes we think alike"?
You know, like you think of an idea, and I had the same one?
We have done this before many times.
Yes, MOM...
well, this is nothing  serious, so don't worry,
 but.....
I got you and Mike your Christmas present.
You want to know what it is?
No not really, do I have to?
Yes, because I am afraid Mike may think and do the same thing.
OK, Mom what is it?

WELL....{Keep in mind she built up this anticipation like nobody's business.}
I had your magazine spread custom framed, the entire article.
"WHAT"?

Now I know in the back of my mind, this is no easy gig, not to mention how expensive something like this would cost.
I would HAVE never in a million years done this.  Even though, yes it is a big deal to us, however, a simple magazine frame would have sufficed and that is what I was planning.
I suppose I made my Mom a little proud:)

My Mom has created a family heirloom for us.  We cherish it, and love it, the colors, the frame, we seriously could not have done it any better.  The size is perfect, I can't believe she did this all via long distance, no measuring, nothing, all done with her creative mind!
WOW, Mom!

I thank you Momma from the bottom of our hearts.
XO

Color, texture, stay or go?

First off thanks for the many congratulations, regarding our publication in Country Woman magazine!~
So much fun it was indeed.
 Now onto this post....
I am not one into table cloths.  At one time, I loved them, and lace ones no less.
Now I like table runners and placemats.
Of course, as you know color is key for me.
Now that I finally have valances I like, it is hard to find the right table runner to go with, or should I say compliment.
Today I went to Marshall's to buy a friend a birthday gift.  Well she got one, and I got two...
even though my birthday is over.
I deserve it RIGHT? RIGHT, thank you...
I don't shop that much these days..too busy on this dang computer.
How about this score for 12.99 at Marshalls, including the bottles...I almost walked away from it, then I thought, I know what I can do with it.

I love my faux flowers and apples from PIER I..that is the only place I like to get the faux's.
I mentioned color and texture.  Well here it is.  As you can see I am very much drawn to these colors...
These are the same colors in the valances.  I think it is a nice compliment..paisley and check? Sure why not..

As you can see I did not place this table cloth the traditional way.  I layered it on each side.
It just looked too perfect the other way, I hate perfect.

I still have to iron it, because I HATE wrinkles too..
but before I took that time to do that, I have to see if I can live it with it.

Should it stay or should it GO?

Blood, Sweat and tears!

That is what I feel like after doing one chair!
Now I know why I love spray paint so much. It is way easier to paint a  rocking chair with  a can opposed to a brush and roller. So many nooks and crannies.

These rockers were purchased many moons ago, and were originally oak.
I then spray painted them black, and lightly distressed them, that was  few years back BB (before blogging)
This year our front porch is getting a mini makeover.
I always change out per season, but this year I wanted a dramatic difference.
I am not sure the direction I will be going, however, I did know how I wanted
to redo the rockers.
So I sought out my color...
and decided I would start today.

I sanded the heck out of these chairs after the paint dried.
Tomorrow I will be working on the other chair.
I wanted a change and had to start somewhere.
The hat is not staying, I only threw that on there for special effects.
 This was last summer.
I would love some ideas.
We love country rustic, Spanish, Old world decor...
If I can incorporate a little of each, I would be happy.
I want to replace the cross too with something else...
Thanks so much!
XO
And let's not forget on March 25th color my World party..spray paint ONLY!

Home Tour

This is a home tour post from 2010. There have been a few decor changes since.
 And here is our story.....
We never stepped foot in our home until the day we closed on it.  We had only looked through the windows, and saw the interior home layout on paper.  I knew from the minute I stepped on the front porch, this was HOME.   Although a new built home, there where things we have done to make it unique to our style and what we love.  You will see our style is somewhat unique. We have spent years acquiring just the right pieces, for just the right places.   We entertain often and  have out of town house guests often.  I enjoy nothing more than staying home and enjoying quality time, and creating a warm loving environment for my boys to treasure for years to come.

Welcome.......
When you enter our home the first room you see is our family room.  We love old World style, I would say with a modern twist.  I love it when you do not know what is old and what is new.  Our pieces have meaning and lots of history.  We have enjoyed our hobby together of antiquing and thrifting.
I decided I would bake you some cookies, and have proudly displayed them on my home made tier platter: Idea inspired by:http://www.thetidynest.com, and also the veggie candle inspired by:http://www.recapturedcharm.com.  Both awesome blogs I would suggest checking out!~
Our kitchen is always undergoing accessory changes.  This season I have incorporated Blues and yellows.  Every room of our home has the same color schemes, however reversed.  I am always borrowing from one room to the other and switching things up for a new look....

I just added a little copper to the kitchen as well.  I have no problem mixing brushed silver and copper, golds, blacks....If I like it I say it works....there is my little home made wine cork trivet, you may view the tutorial here......
There is a little snippet of my modge podge project behind the sink you may also view the tutorial here.......
From the kitchen it is open to our family room, and this is where most of our square footage is in our home.  Some think our home is much bigger than it is because of the heigth of the 22 foot ceilings, however it is not as large as it appears, but just enough for me to take care of! This is the view from the kitchen island
Now onto our Master bedroom.  This is the most colorful room in the house.  I love the vibrant fun atmosphere, after all aren't we suppose to have fun in there too?? LOL....I have used a warm color pallet throughout our home.  Restoration hardware colors using Benjamin moore paint.  The kitchen and family room are Butter, and our bedroom is cappuccino
These colors just make me smile.....I have used the Better Home and Gardens collection this year purchased  at  Walmart.  The price is right and the quality is unbeatable.  Because I accessory  change seasonally so often in our home, I do everything on a budget.  This summer bedroom redo was around $200.00, which included bedding, sheets, pillows and window treatments.  The window treatments where purchased at pottery barn half price....they where 35.00 a panel and fully lined and great quality as well.
These candle urns I already had from last year, also Better home and Gardens collection.  I used them outside last year,  and thought this year they would go great in our bedroom.  The fun, colorful plates I also had for years and purchased those at Z-gallerie.
The candle hanging over the bench was purchased at Lowes Garden center last year for $30.00.....I love it!
Fall ambiance

Recent Spring guest room revamp. Painted the furniture Robin eggs blue (chalk paint). I made the art work over the bed.

THe bedding pillows are Cynthia Rowley found at TJ Maxx.
Hope to see you back again. If you are new to blogging, I host  a newbie linky party every Monday. Great way to meet new bloggie friends like yourself.
And here is a our new Master bedroom complete!
