Do I have what it takes? NEED your input!

Big question of the day!~ Although all  you fine women only know me through this virtual world, I am hoping you can give me some opinions on this.  My Mom sent me Oprahs website the other day regarding Oprah searching for the next TV star  " Your own show".  Well I have always adored Oprah, I mean seriously who does not? She has inspired many of us for years and years now.  Oprah is starting a new network and looking for some candidates to host her new show.  Now there are many categories, such as talk show, Interior design and fashion, cooking, fitness, wild card etc.  My Mom is encouraging me for talk show host. I think I could perhaps be a creative talk show host~!  Gosh, I thought, yes I can do that, love to talk, have the gift of gab...love people and listening to their stories.  But do I really have what it takes?  Perhaps, maybe, kinda, sorta, YES I do..... I think!~ The hardest part for me right now, is doing the video.  What do I say, how do I really get my personality across?  Do you think you know me through this virtual world and do you get a feel for who I am? Do you think my personality comes through?   If the answer is YES, than do you  think in three minutes I can get Oprah and her producers to know the same?  Any tips? I have many fears and what ifs on this.  You only live once, so we think, and this is an opportunity of a life time.  Have I always wanted a show? NOPE, never thought about it not even once.  I do feel I connect with people pretty fast.  My husband always says I can make a new friend in the grocery store.  This may be just a goofy thing I can try out for fun, and that is great too.  I think it would be a great experience alone just doing the video.  So tell me your thoughts, and do you have any creative ideas on how to do a video?  Thanks everyone:) I have not even told me friends here yet.  One of my close friends has wanted me to go on the reality show Big Brother for years now.  She said she would even watch my kids...she thinks I had that much of a chance on winning.  I can't live with strangers for three months, and have no outside communication, no TV, no internet.....I would go NUTS! One thing that bothers me with this process is I could be possibly gone from home for up to six weeks....I would miss my family terribly.  But my husband encouraged me and said cross that bridge if and when you get to it...he is right, no sense of putting the cart before the horse.  But this is how my mind operates, overload!  P.S. Would love me some OPRAH money, you all would get a Coach bag or two!~(totally kidding here folks) I do love OPRAHS giveaways, could you imagine being in her audience for that event?  JULIE a new blogging friend  just made an interesting comment and that got me to thinking....what would you LOVE to see in a show.? She mentioned a mommy network.....hmmmmm...let me know your thoughts on topics too.  I would love a spin on that too!
Don't forget about my designer bag giveaway HERE

Your personality definitely comes through on your blog! You have to try as the worst that can happen is they pass on you. No guts, no glory!!

As for what to do on a video tape, I'm not that creative!! I guess I would suggest doing a fun interview of something/someone interesting that inspires you. However that is just a suggestion from someone that has a fear of failure so do what you know!!!!

I say go for it Debbie! Your personality definitely comes through your blog - from your colorful background, your bold paint projects and your photos- not to mention the "surprises" in your blog posts(the guy on the commode on the front porch comes to mind). Plus you have a great face & smile for TV! Just put a little of all that into your video! I saw a quote yesterday somewhere that said "It's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring". That's for sure! Good luck!

I don't have any tips per say, but-- I say go for it--you never know what's behind the door!
Why Oprah? Why not Debbie from the Carolinas??!!
Do the video for fun (not Oprah money or Coach bags), because that's who you are and be yourself and see what happens!
This is SO exciting- I will get to say- "I knew her when..."
XOXOXO

I don't know, maybe walk about your home (showing your most eclectic individual styles!) all the while gabbing about your style, how you live your life, your interests, your blog, and MOSTLY your desire to get involved with others....that's my suggestion. I definately think your personality really comes through! Just do several tapes, and edits, and see which you like best! You'll be great! Go for it!

Wow.You amazed me yet again with your zest for life and I totally agree with Bonnie and Pam.No guts no glory. You should definitely try for it.

Of course I am not as creative as you and so many other people out there but think from the point of view of the audience.Think about you and me and other people like us and what you can do to connect with them.Best thing is to figure out what specifically entertains you or hooks you up and follow that.End of the day talk shows of any kind are all about connecting with your audience.Isn't it?

End of my essay type answer.Best of luck and whatever happens we want to see the VIDEO!

Go for it if that is what you want to do! You will never know unless you try. I personally would not be able to. I had to speak in front a large room of people several years ago and my knees shook. Thanks goodness I was standing behind a podium so most could not see my skirt jiggle. :D

Your personality does shine through your blog. I think you should do something off the wall for your video, go stand in a parking lot and see if you can interview a stranger or something. It would be different and more daring than being in the comfort of your home! Go for it!!!

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!!

I think you would be great on a TV show. I have a suggestion for doing the video - go to your local university. It is bound to have a media college and you could hire a student to help you with the video.

Deb, I do believe your personality comes through here in virtual land, but have no clue how to do a video or what to say. I am too shy to even think of getting in front of a video. I didn't even like saying something at my son's reception. All I can say is just be yourself!

Ok girls if you could actually see a girl blush and break out into a sweat, that is what I am doing right now! Gosh, yes I want to try it, why not, what the heck, I have nothing to lose....I do believe there will be a voting option, as I see some on there already.....I think it will come down to Oprah and the producers...but votes and comments can't hurt. I am taking notes now as to what I want to say....I think when it comes down to the video I will just wing it...I can't over rehearse it, that just is not me:)

Wow, there is definitely a theme here! It sounds like you are interested, and they your family supports you, and that means they believe in you. It is easy to say, Go For It, when it isn't me doing it! So, when you are by yourself, and you imagine this beginning part and being chosen, -then ending up with a show.... how do you feel? Sounds to me like you are gonna do this! I am happy for you that you have this fun & fantastic opportunity!

I think this is an awesome opportunity and you have nothing to lose, so much to gain. If your family is supportive, then the hard part is over! As to the video...I have no clue. I would possibly think of interviewing someone interesting, or an on-the-street impromptu thing...sort of like Jay Leno does sometimes. Whatever you decide, I wish you tons of luck. Just go with it and have fun!

Hi Deb,
Wow what an opportunity !!! How could you not at least have a go. Life only comes around once and I think you should definitely give it a go. I have only met you recently via blogging and the one thing that has shone through is your beautiful sincerity. It's a joy to get a comment from you always puts a smile on my face and I'm thousands of miles away. Go on I will fly over and be in the audience on the show (lol)
I think that maybe a 3 min video discussing show ideas is a great way to put across your versatility and willingness to discuss a range of issues in life. Good luck my sweet new friend I really hope you have a go.
